I watched this movie like ten times, and still enojoy it like the first time. Big drama, and a lot of action. Bam, bam, bam don't close your eyes or will miss something good.

Most OVERrated Movie of the Year...by far.
Review created: 04/15/08

The fact that this movie was a hit is truely disturbing on so many levels. This flick has very little redeeming value as entertainment. The plot is horrible at best, the dialogue is weak, the violence is unimaginative and thrown in for a cheap shock value. The fact that some people not only like this movie but think it's "great" is pathetic. Watch it if you want...I'd rather watch the grass grow...while sleeping.

What isn't there to like. Great movie looks even better in Hi Definition format! Love the bargains you can find here on E-Bay and the sellers take good care of their customers. Love to shop here and will keep on as long as I keep finding great deals like this one.

Martin Scorses's, The Departed is the next Godfather
Review created: 03/06/07
by: cntaur5-- a member of Epinions and Advisor in Movies

Pros:
Pacing, Cast and excellent Direction.

Cons:
I should have bought the two disc DVD with all the extras.

Warner Bros. Pictures presents The Departed (2006) which begins with scenes of racial rioting in Boston (some years ago). The movie begins in narrative mode sharing a story about a gang called the Nights of Columbus who in the words of Irish crime boss Frank Costello (Jack Nicholson) were real head-breakers; true guineas who took over their city. Frank Costello is called Mr. C in the neighborhood. His slant on race, politics and life set the tone of the film as he walks into a local diner, shakes down the owner for cash insults one of the workers and asks one of the kids eating if he is...

One Cop, Two Cop, Three Cop, Four- Is He a Cop Anymore??
Review created: 03/14/07

Pros:
Action, plot, acting

Cons:
harsh language, lots of gore

I finally watched The Departed on DVD. I had long awaited seeing this Scorsese film as I believe that Scorsese is always masterful and I love mob movies so to speak. I had read reviews from fellow Epinionators but I really didn t couldn t fathom how simply fantastic the film would be. After watching, I immediately went out and bought the movie as well. The Story Frank Costello (Jack Nicholson) is a sort of blue collar mob king pin. He has contacts throughout the police department and he runs his neighbourhood with a reign of terror. He and his thugs demand money from merchants, steal, murder..

An Apt Title For A Film With A Very High Body Count
Review created: 11/11/07
by: vemartin-- a member of Epinions and Advisor in Movies

Pros:
Outstanding cinematography; compelling story-line; outstanding acting and direction.

Cons:
Oh the profanity.

I grew up in New England for the most part, in Newport, Rhode Island, so I am well familiar with Boston propensity for violence and organized crime mayhem. The fabled Irish gangs that infest Boston s seedier neighborhoods are also a (waning) fixture in Providence, the capitol of Rhode Island. But Boston provides the back-drop for the latest Martin Scorsese blood-soak drama The Departed, which won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 2007. Story-line Directed by the aforementioned Martin Scorsese (Goodfellas, The Age of Innocence, Gangs of New York), The Departed (2006) is a remake of the...

THE DEPARTED Declares a Come-Back for Martin Scorsese: The American Experience Pecking Order.
Review created: 11/28/06
by: macresarf1 -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Martin Scorsese's direction. William Monahan's screenplay. Jack Nicholson, the supporting cast. DiCaprio and Farmigla.

Cons:
Sheer, almost unredeemed brutality. Avalanche of ugly language, remarks. A certain comic book shallowness.

What do you get when you combine the plot of a Chinese gangster yarn with the ethos of the Sicilian Corleones transferred to an unredeemed, foul-mouthed, bigoted psychopathic gang kingpin (played by Jack Nicholson) among the embittered but practical "Shanty Irish" of Boston? Not GOODFELLAS, obviously, nor GANGS OF NEW YORK or THE AVIATOR -- thank goodness -- but THE DEPARTED, Director Martin Scorsese's best film in at least fifteen years. The film answers the question: Are all cops in Boston Irish? (The answer is, evidently, with one or two exceptions, yes!) And it tries to answer the...

The Departed --- A Martin Scorsese film with Matt Damon and Leonardo DiCaprio (NO SPOILERS)
Review created: 10/10/06
by: three_ster-- a member of Epinions and Top Reviewer in Movies

Pros:
extremely well written and acted, packed with dramatic elements, superb in every fashion

Cons:
none

In a break from my normal methods of reviewing films, I thought that the end result of this film was worth noting, even before I dove into the description of the story and the plot. So well made was this film, that I think it should be seen even if you have very little information on the subject matter, and simply know that it stars the likes of Matt Damon and Leonardo DiCaprio. Martin Scorsese has really upped the ante' on police dramas with his latest film The Departed. In doing so, he put together an exemplary cast of actors that achieved every goal of the film, and showed off a well...
