I know it's only February but The Departed gets 6 thumbs up from me and gets my vote for Movie of the Year.
Great cast, amazing script, twists, turns, action, excitement. This movie is perfect in every way. It's an edge of your seat thrill-ride from beginning to end.
DiCaprio, Damon, Nicholson, Wahlberg, Baldwin, and so on and so forth. The cast is so spectacular this movie just had no possibility of being bad. Martin Scorcese will win awards this year. That's a guarantee!
A final note though... this movie is rated 18A for a reason, it's got plenty of violence and extremely harsh language. It's definitely not recommended for anybody under the age of 16.
Final Verdict:
5/5
Worth buying?: Absolutely, The Departed is a must own.
IF YOU FIND THIS REVIEW HELPFUL PLEASE REMEMBER TO VOTE. Thank you.
A really good old fashioned film, with an excellent story and an unbelievable cast. This film really keeps you interested all the way though as you want to know what will happen to the protagonists, and how they will or won't get caught.
We have all seen All-Star cast films where they just did not gel, but Marty seems to have got a good performance out of everybody. You can tell that Jack Nicholson has been given huge leeway in how he wanted to take his character through the story, and as always seems larger than life, but do not mistake that for a recycled performance. Without giving nothing away, his meeting with Matt Damon in the cinema is certainly worth watching for novelty and imagination in introducing yourself to someone you know!!! This is the sort of film you come out of the theatre with a big smile on your face, and surrounded by good spirited chattering. There are twists but you do not lose track of events, and just lap up the quality that laces the film from beginning to end.
Sure it is not Goodfellas, but then they say that genius only touches you once....but this is head and shoulders above the best that most other directors can make.
its a great movie. it has a very intriging ending that i find spectacular. i wasnt expecting all the main characters to die. i also like the part where the actress in the movie chaets on her boyfriend and gets naked. i give it two thumbs way up

I absolutely love this movie. In the beginning for me, it was a little bit hard to follow, but once you really get into it, don't leave the screen! You can't miss a second of this movie! The cast is amazing.. Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jack Nicholson.. it's awesome. You will love it!
I wanted to see this movie because of the actors that are in it, but I was disappointed in it. I didn't like Jack Nicholson's character in this movie. And I usually like the characters he plays. The other characters were ok, but it just didn't come together for me.
With strong characters, visual effects, and a plot that is both intricate and easy to comprehend, the Departed is one of few greats in recent years. Minute comical aspects both make the movie more enjoyable and have helped me win more games of Taboo. A violent and profanity-filed film, it's not for everyone, but aside from the kids and the light-of-heart, this movie will make most people evaluate social roles and justice in general. Check it out, it's worth more than most things twenty bucks could bring you.
The movie is great, the DVD works fine, I decided to buy it after seeing part of it on HBO, and realizing that it would be a great addition to my collection.
This movie has an amazing cast and a great script. This will keep the thrill in you from begining to end. With star actor performances, this DVD is a great addition to your collection. This movie has explcit language, gore and some nudity. This movie won 4 Oscars, and won 47 other awards. Three of the main characters participate in lies, betrayal and sacrifice to only identify eachothers identity towards the end. All are in a battle within the Mafia and Irish Mob. This is a must see movie!
A performance from actor Leonardo Di Caprio, Matt Daemon and Jack Nicholson. Three fascinating actors put together a story of bordello and violence. With an ending so faboulous, it's been awarded one of the best and mysterious endings ever. Martin Scorsese puts all of this movie to life with fantastic directing and a good pick of great actors for his set.
** This is a MUST SEE movie, and a MUST KEEP movie...

This star packed film is just what the Doctor ordered. Good cops, bad cops, snitches, rats, backstabbers, the Mob, violence, and everything else a weary movie watcher needs to keep me not blinking for over two hours! If you love Jack Nicholson, you will love this monvie. I gained more respect for Leonardo Dicaprio. His intensity punches you right in the guts. There are numerous twists and turns going back and forth between the cops and the bad guys. It is a rollercoaster with a great ending. It is now on my monthly list of "have to watch movies." It will not disappoint. Buy this movie.
There was a lot of profanity in this movie. but if that doesn't bother you, its awesome! The end was not what I expected either, which was good. Also it was entertaining to listen to the actors accents. Great movie!
I never recieved this dvd. I tried to file a did not recieve complaint, but the dvd was somehow removed and the item number was invalid. I tried to contact ebay about this problem, but I did not get a response. So thank you.
For fans of the godfather and goodfellas. A great tale of mob life. Martin Scorcese won the oscar, as leonardo dicaprio and mark walberg received nominations as well. Graphic violence, and a love triangle makes for a great movie.
Billy Costigan (Leonardo DiCaprio) is an undercover cop in South Boston assigned to infiltrate a mob syndicate run by a boss named Costello (Jack Nicholson). Meanwhile, a young criminal, Colin Sullivan (Matt Damon), has embedded himself in the police department's Special Investigation Unit. Both their lives become endangered when the two organizations realize they have moles within their ranks.
the dvd is in great condition but the case was broken. I wasn't really expecting that, but I may not have read the entire description. all in all, I like it.
Martin Scorsese hits a triple with "The Departed." It's a merry orgy of violence, not in the same league as "Taxi Driver" or "Raging Bull," but a cut above "Gangs of New York." In Boston, crime boss Frank Costello (played as a murderous prankster by Jack Nicholson) places a mole (Matt Damon)inside the Massachusetts State Police; the police in turn plant an undercover agent in Costello's inner circle. Each side soon tumbles to the fact that it has been penetrated by the other, and the moles end up hunting each other. The actors don't appear to be acting, which is what great acting is all about. Nicholson, who sports a Mephistophelean beard and is often shot against fire-red backgounds, gives a riveting performance, and the camera-work and editing leave nothing to be desired. "The Departed" won Scorsese his first Academy Award for Best Picture (2006)
An incredibly intricately woven tale from start to finish. William Costigan, an undercover cop, is sent to infiltrate the mob boss, Frank Costello's organization in order to build a case against him and take him down. With no one to trust and no one to turn to, his mission is to earn Costello's trust and report back to the only 2 men that know his real identity.
Colin Sullivan, who was practically raised by Frank Costello, is sent to school and ultimately becomes a cop as well, in a special unit assigned to take Costello down. With both deeply immersed in their roles, their world collide as the both sides catch on to the fact that there is a mole in their midst.
This movie has a well orchestrated ensemble (all star cast), so many twists and turns you can't look away for a minute, and world where nothing is ever what it seems to be. Definitely worth watching!
First off, I just wanted to say that if your going to write a review, don't give a low rating just because you didn't review the item you paid for; that's just common sense; a review was meant for consumers to write a review about the movie.
Had to put that out for the ignorant people...
Anyways, The Departed was again another one of Scorsese' classics. There was never a boring moment. Regardless if there isn't as much action, the drama and the twists just leave you at the edge of your seat wanting more. I would've given it 5 stars but personally, this wasn't the type of movie I'd wanna see more than once or twice because after you know everything that's about to happen, honestly, the movie just drags on.
If you love police-mob dramas, you'll definitely want to add The Departed to your collection.
I'm colecting dvd movies and I like this movie. I purchased it because has spanish subtitle and my english is very bad. I buy thats dvd's of my interest but is necessary hav spanis audio or subtitels.
i never got the DVD, i ordered it a while ago and it never came, the other dvd i ordered with it came over a month ago....still waiting, and the best part is i am in the military, and have been moved to a new duty station, so if it ever comes to that address, i wont be there...thanks
Loved it! Watched it three times and will watch it again in the future. This is one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. The end is a shocker and kind of a letdown, but then you have to rewatch it to pick up on parts that you missed. You understand certain points of the movie better after rewatching it. You've got to pay attention!
this movie is confusing at times but very good and at the end you will understand the whole movie. i was at the edge of my sit and didnt want to miss a part because is very good. it is worth the money and a must have for collectors!!!
Classic good vs. evil battle, spun violently out of control. I loved it, hated it and then loved it again all the first time I watched it. Excellent actors coupled with quarky characters and a great set of plot twists make this movie a must have.
