The stereo versions of The Early Beatles and Beatles VI have many songs not available in stereo on the EMI releases. The Capitol stereo mixes of Help and Rubber Soul are different than the EMI versions and to my ears sound better. It could be because this is the way I remember them until the Beatles CDs came out in the mid 80's.
I already own all of the British Parlophone Beatles releases, so I was hesitant to buy the Beatles music all over again. Nevertheless, I finally gave in and purchased Volume 2 of the Captol Albums. Part of the listening experience of these albums for older baby boomers like me is the song sequence, and the exaggerated stereo (or mono)offered on the US releases. Listening to these US versions does indeed take me back to the 60's more than the UK CDs. The little mini album format is also very cute, and makes playing the CDs fun.For $10 a CD or so,I am happy with this 4 CD set. Go For it!
I love the Beatles and this 2nd Capitol Records cd compilation is what I needed to go along with the first release from Capitol Records which came out about 2 years ago. Capitol had never released any of it's USA pressings on cd before. The only cd's of the Beatles were from the British album catalogue going as far back as 1987. The USA titles for the cd's from Capitol had different names compared to their British couterparts. These USA releases also had different songs as well. All in all, the Capitol Albums on cd Vol. 2 is wonderful. Each cd (album) has all of the songs on it in stereo and mono. So, you might get a total of 24 songs on the cd (12 Stereo, 12 Mono). It's a good concept, especially if you like the mono sound. I'd recommend Vol.2 to any Beatles fan.
