The Anthology - a great sampling of Tribe's best
A Tribe Called Quest is an incredible group. Q-Tip and Phife Dog really know how to throw down some smooth, classic songs. These guys pumped out several incredible CD's in their decade of music-making in the 90's, and they're still just as fresh-sounding as when they came out. However, if you're not able to find or purchase all their albums, you might ask, is there one album that contains some of A Tribe Called Quest's greatest hits, and gives a good snapshot of the kind of group they are and the music they make?
With The Anthology, the answer is yes. The CD contains a fine sampling of the group's finest, although some classics are left out - however, this is understandable, as you can only include so many songs on one CD. More well-known songs such as "Check the Rhime," "Can I Kick It?," and "Award Tour," and other great songs sampled from all their albums; also, Q-Tip's latest hit "Vivrant Thing" is included, as well as ATCQ's underground rarity "If the Papes Come."
In summary, this album gives a great snapshot of the jazz-infused, body-moving hip-hop that is A Tribe Called Quest. I would recommend this buy to anyone.

The perfect CD to get the Tribe fix us children of the 80's love!There is nothing I dislike about this CD. I decided to buy it because it a must have for any true Hip Hop fan.

(It was my "responsibility" to get this in last week, but I failed. Hopefully Mad can forgive me.) Your favorite hip hop reviewer MadTheory has given us a task. It's Hip Hop Appreciation Week and thus, the Hip Hop Appreciation Week Write-off. Our goal? To stress the theme of responsibility in the world of hip hop. What does that exactly mean? Responsibility means many things to different people. If you look at the write-off entries thus far, there are tons of great reviews and each treats responsibility different. "a tribe called quest - the anthology" is about as good a greatest hits album as you'll find. Most of tribe's classic singles are here. Check The Rhime, Bonita Applebum, Scenario, Electric Relaxation -- the list goes on and on! There are plenty of great beats and rhymes on this CD, stretching back to the start of their career. If you aren't a hip hop fan but want to be introduced to the genre, this is _the single best place to start_. You will hear intelligent rhymes layered over smooth beats and obscure samples, as opposed to the straight theft of bass lines practiced by most "artists" today.

A Tribe Called Quest is one the most premier artists in hip hop. Original lyrics and style make them the best rappers (as a group) of all time. In my mind, the Notorious B.I.G. is the greatest rapper ever and no body will ever be able to touch him. I bought the album last month because I wanted to have their greatest songs all on one album. Although I think that most all of their songs are excellent, it's a pain to lug around five cd's just to listen to what you want to. I love how the producers put together the album. Diversity among a cd and how it's put together add to how well listeners...

A Tribe Called Quest have been kicking hip hop for a very long time. Heck... Busta Rhymes started with the Fife and the Abstract. "Anthology" is the collection of all of their hit singles. The album features old skool classics like "Bonita Applebaum" and "Can I kick it?". Now who doesn't remember flowing to these classic tunes back in the day? Plus it also includes "Vivrant thing" and "Hot Sex", some of their newer releases. Overall, I thought this was a great collection of Tribe songs. If you already own every Tribe album, then I don't think you need to bother. But if you've never heard them.
