The 4400 - The Complete First Season (2004, DVD)

Although the set truly is the complete first season, the first season didn't have very many episodes in it, so I went though this DVD set faster than I had expected. I am enjoying the series, and looking forward to seeing more. The filmography is good and the main characters are appealing, for the most part. And the handsome but spooky benefactor of the 4400 makes a great Lex Luthor-type villain. Violent scenes occur, but the gore is not usually dwelt upon.
I wish, however, that the overall tone had some variation in it. On the mood scale it ranges from melancholy to trepidation to despair to worry to dismay to regret to loneliness to . . . Many of our modern screen writers have lost the notion of comic relief as exemplified in Shakespeare's tragedies. If there were some light-hearted but realistic moments, the range of sad moods would be felt more deeply in contrast. Surely some of the returning 4400 could have had some silly things happen. [My family liked, for instance, the simple joys Jarod (of The Pretender) had in discovering things like Pez and Silly Putty after he escaped from The Center.] Unfortunately the writers of The 4400 chose to make their youngest and longest-absent returnee almost omniscient upon her return, so they couldn't use her to joyfully discover anything.
Another objection: There was no need to show the sex scenes. We knew that the returning teen and his brother's girlfriend were destined for that. Why not just infer it, if it's necessary for the plot. In my opinion, less (of sex scenes) is definitely more.
Still, I think I'll keep watching the travails of the 4400, at least for another season. . .

A comet is due to pass by Earth harmlessly. However, the comet's course suddenly changes to an impact trajectory with the Earth, causing global panic. It soon becomes apparent that what is believed to be a comet is no comet at all after it appears to come in for landing. Hovering over Highland Beach (Capilano Lake, British Columbia), the comet - a ball of light - explodes, depositing 4,400 people.

An amazing show that gets better with every season.

A pretty cool show from start to the end.
Season finale of the 4400 was awesome.There are still many questions need to be answered.Characters were full of surprises and as time passed,a new way was found in the show,not only those kidnapped had a gift but also ordinary people were capable of having interesting abilities,i must say that this was an original idea as we see Baldwin in a dilemma whether to take the injection. I would want to see what would be his ability because he had a really important place in the fate of humanity. If there was a fifth season,we could see a lot of different events.but the 4400 will be in my mind cancelled or not cancelled.It was a show full of originality,creativity...

The returnees have been missing from months to years. None have any memory of where they've been, none have aged, and a small number are beginning to manifest "abilities".

The 4400 is a very interesting story that I have not seen before. What happens after a person has been abducted by ETs and returns a number of years later. They find their loved ones dead. The neighborhoods they knew are gone. Their family had assumed they're dead and moved on. What would the readjustment be like? That is the story of this very fascinating miniseries is about. I will be sure to watch the rest of this series to see what happens. I'm sure some people will learn how to cope and some will not. But is there something more sinister going on? The 4400 is the cure for the summer boredom. I wish the networks would stop putting on one idiotic reality show after another and have shows that are at least have some ambition to them. Why does junk like The Simple Life and Fear Factor stay on the air and shows with ambition are banished to cable. That's where the viewers should go.

I wanted season one, because I had missed an episode or two, and I"m glad I did, because it really cleared some things up, but geeze, it was so short!! I guess that's why it was selling so cheap!

This has a few twist and turns in the story line. It's well acted and I bought season 2 to watch. It's drawing me in to the "wonder what will happen next" senerio.

Happen to see an add for season 4 and purchased this season one. I don't know how i ever missed this series. one of the best sci-fi shows i have seen in a while. very good story line with unlimited possibilities.

Usually like the all the series that has tension and expectative from one chapter to another. The 4400 is one of these. Love it. After watching the first cd of this season I've already sent for season 2.

This is fantastic sci-fi and drama. Each episode builds on the next, leaving you wanting more. If you buy this, it's a sure bet that your next purchase will be: 'The 4400 - The Complete SECOND Season' !!!! Very enjoyable entertainment.

I order this DVD but got a Tom and Jerry cartoon instead, Yes I would have sent it back but heres the answer to that I am delpoyed to Djibouti Af right now and after buying it found out the hard way the ebay doesnt mail to APO address so sent it to my mothers house and after all said and done my nephew now has a copy of Tom and Jerry. So dont buy from thie guy again

I bought the DVD A few weeks back as I am hooked on the show. It is a great Science fiction show that is intense and keeps you on your seat! It is a wonderful show to watch.

I love this show! The 4400 is a brilliantly thought up show. The plot twists are extraordinary. I won't say anything more as not to give away anything! After you buy this, buy season 2 and season 3. They are equally excellent. This is a must have for any TV Sci-Fi fan.

We sell DVD's and were fascinated by the story line. We put this in our personal collection and can not get enough of this show. We can't wait for the Fourth Season airing this summer on the USA network. The pilot show for us was haunting with it's musical score, the gripping story in itself, the stunningly handsome cast who all gel together in the very first few minutes of the show. Peter Coyote's character is awesome to say the least. If you haven't purchased this yet, your missing out on one of the best Sci-fi shows to ever reappear!

This has to be one of the greatest new shows since X-Files. I would highly recommend this to the Sci-Fi buff in a heartbeat. I can't wait to buy Season 2 and see what it has in store.

This is a great DVD. I just love the series and try not to miss any episodes.
You can get caught up really quickly in each and every character and their life story.
Cant wait to buy the second season.

Thousands of people have disappeared over the last fifty years. They all reappeared at one time near Seattle. They have not aged a day and don't remember where they have been. Many of these people develope strange and wonderful new abilities seemingly the next step in human evolution. Why were these people taken? What is their new purpose? Are they dangerous? What should the government do? Just when we start to get some answers they usually lead to more questions. Some of the shows are independent stores but many are slowly leading to the reasons for everthing. I saw this on DVD first since I missed it on TV. I was hooked and had to watch more. The show is in its three season with no lowering of quality.

I loved season one of The 4400. I've watched every season since it started. Season one is awesome. If you are watching the current season and haven't seen seasons one and two I suggest you buy a copy and watch them. It gives you background on how the 4400 showed up and explains a lot of things that happen later.
You get to meet all the characters for the first time. Tom and Diana are NTAC agents sent to investigate when a comet mysteriously leaves 4400 people in Seattle. All the people had previously disappeared sometime in the last sixty years. None of them have aged since they disappeared. One of them is a little girl named Maya who eventually ends up living with Diana.
Some of the 4400 return with new abilities, like Tom's nephew Sean, who can heal people. He heals his cousin, Tom's son, who was comatose since the night Sean disappeared several years earlier. Sean wakes him up from his coma.
All the 4400 have to try to return to their lives, even though their friends and family moved on in the time they were gone.
The 4400 is a wonderful show with great actors and an exciting plot. If you love sci-fi, you'll love this show. It is really well written and well acted. I recommend it highly. Plus you can get a new copy on Ebay for a lot less than what you'd pay in a store.

This is a great TV show. I never saw it when it aired but I bought this DVD set to watch and to find out if I liked it. I really do like the shows. It's a great combination of drama, Sci-Fi, and who done it, all rolled up in one. If you like any of these types of shows you should love this series.

I'M SURE THEY WILL HAVE A NAME FOR THE FOLLOWERS OF THE 4400. STAR TREK HAD THE " TREKKIES". AT THE RATE THIS SERIES IS TAKING OFF THEY ARE BOUND TO COME UP WITH SOMETHING. THIS IS THE BEST EVER.
