Test For Echo - Rush (Cassette 1996)

Here we go! Test For Echo by Rush
Review created: 08/26/03

Pros:
Excellent rock music with bullying guitar work and outstanding drums (but of course!)
Cons:
That's for you to decide
Good old Rush.. you never hear much about these guys. While some bands get praised to high heaven and others get branded with such terms as "overrated", "superfluous" and "pretentious", Rush are just kind of there. Even now, though, you might still catch a classic rock station spinning some "Tom Sawyer" on an overcast brunch hour. And it has been my experience that Rush have the most devoted fan base of 'em all. I would never have known about Rush if not for Curt, an old buddy who worked at the Golden Pantry with me (there's RATS in them thar stores, RATS I mean it!). He got so excited about..

At Long Last, Rush's Return-To-Form!

Pros:
The guitars are wonderful, the production is smooth
Cons:
Not a whole lot of diversity here. Some of the songs are plain.
(Disclaimer: Those looking for a brief description of the album will find what their looking for in the "Review Body" section. Lastly and most importantly, this review is not necessarily written by the point of view of a Rush fan.) Overall Score: 4/5 Best song: Time and Motion Worst song: Dog Years Review Body: It was now a comfortable distance from the late '80s, and so Rush was allowed to release their best album since Moving..

Truly an album that's hard to Resist

Pros:
The perfect blend of lyrics and music with some powerfully deep tracks.
Cons:
'Time and Motion' just doesn't sound right.
Author's Note: This is a complete re-write of an original (and woefully incomplete) opinion I posted several months back. Test for Echo marks a sweet sixteen of sorts for Rush. This is the 16th original studio album that they have released, their final studio album released in the 90's, and some thought, until very recently, that it was their final album - period. Thankfully, Rush is currently (as of July 2001) hard at work on their 17th studio album due out in early 2002. But had this been Rush's curtain call, then they would have left the music world as they entered it - full of fire, full..

RUSH - Test for Echo - it passes the test
Review created: 05/03/04

Pros:
Solid album with good balance of heavy and melodic rock
Cons:
Possibly their last good album
After their return to a more heavy rock sound with Counterparts , Rush wasn t about to abandon a successful formula. Their pop sensibility is now more balanced with old time rock chops, which sits comfortably in the musical landscape of the late 90 s. Grunge is dead but it left the industry deeply scarred and thirsty for more aggressive music than the New Wave fare of the 80 s. This album is that and more. Rush now has a popular following of fans who ve been weaned on their progressive sound and intellectual lyrics. Their true musical genius is evident in the way they craft dynamics into...

One of my favorites by these guys

Pros:
One of my favorites by them, very powerful and moving songs.
Cons:
May not appeal to 70s and 80s Rush fans.
While I really liked the album Counterparts, I found that as time went on I liked it less and less. Don't get me wrong, I still think it's a great album but it is not the masterpiece that I thought it was when I first started listening to it. Test for Echo is a different story. Test For Echo was a Birthday present to me from one of my buddies. I wasn't expecting much because at the time I was starting to get a little tired of Rush and was looking for something new. Test For Echo completely changed my mind on that and reminded me why I was ever a Rush fan. Test For Echo has a very peaceful...
