Awesome Movie! Transfer Quality Lacking.

While most have seen the movie (it has been out since 1991) and thought it was excellent or really could not stand it, I will just comment on the high definition (HD, Blu-Ray) version of Terminator 2: Judgment Day and afterwards, give my quick opinion of the movie itself.
Pros of Blu-Ray Version: 1) 1080p High Definition (HD) Blu-Ray media. 2) Movie audio tracks: 5.1 DTS-ES and 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround EX. 3) Commentaries featuring James Cameron, William Wisher, and 26 members of the cast and crew.
Cons: 1) 1080p High Definition (HD) transfer from original film is okay but not awe-inspiring. There appears to be a slight graininess in the film in comparison to other Blu-Ray movies (new or similar age). However, we may have to consider the age of the film as well (or maybe the studio is just waiting to release another Blu-Ray version that has a better transfer, and thus getting the consumer to think about purchasing the same movie again...). 2) In comparison to the first version of the regular DVD (not High Definition), the menu system is not as impressive. I personally like the interactive menu systems currently on DVDs (where the main menu shows up, allowing me to navigate to the various functions of the DVD and with a clip of the movie in the background) and this Blu-Ray menu version just does not cut it for me. However, it appears that Blu-Ray movies in general appear to be less interactive on the main menu system, so this apparently is nothing new. Perhaps as Blu-Rays evolve, the menus may get more complex (complexity to me is great). This Blu-Ray has a sub-menu that allows you to go to any scene, etc.
I love the whole concept of the Terminator Series. I originally saw Terminator 2 in the theaters and thought to myself, "Wow! For someone to dream up that liquid metal man must be from a different planet!" The action scenes are (and always were) fantastic. The Terminator Series is truely one of the most original movie series in SCI-FI and ACTION genre films. Unfortunately, this Blu-Ray version just does not do the movie justice. Maybe next time...
