If for nothing else, buy it for "Love The One You're With"! And look at all the guest musicians contributing!

Any album with Jimi and Clapton can't be all bad

Pros:
Some good music and some great musical guests, some decent songs, "Love the one you're with" is a classic

Cons:
Stills vocals are often lacking, some songs sound uninspired

Stephen Stills self-titled album is one of those albums wherein it is made by its single. The single on this, "Love the one you're with" was a pretty big smash in the early 70s and it is the reason I bought this album. I have never been the biggest fan of Stills (Having not cared for his work in Crosby,Stills, Nash and Young--I always thought Young the best songwriter and Nash the best singer although Stills did sing lead on my favorite 80s Crosby,Stills, Nash song "Southern Cross") but I loved the single and figured that since it was in the discount rack that I'd buy it and hope for the best.

Pros:
A fine introduction to Stills, a very eclectic album, with some very fine songs, Standouts: 'Do for the others', 'Drawn to a flame' & 'old times, good times'

Cons:
The front/back cover images are awful 'real I'm a rock star & I'm rich'.......some of the songs are ruined by lush gospel choruses

First some background on Stills, then the album review: Stephen Stills was one-fifth of the famous, yet thoroughly under-rated 60's group Buffalo Springfield. Stills songwriting partner in the group was none other than Neil Young - and although the two had their differences they have continued to work together on an on-off basis right up to the present day. Still's most significant contribution to rock music is the vietnam-anthem 'For what its worth', which has been used on numerous movies covering the vietnam war, including 'Forest Gump' and 'Platoon'. The song made the band, but it also...
