Starsky and Hutch

Another Great Wilson/Stiller/Vaughn/Ferrell Film

I wasn't that excited about Starsky and Hutch, and after watching it the first time I didn't really like it.

I don't know what changed but after seeing it a few times on the Movie Channel, Starsky and Hutch started to grow on me.

This movie is hilarious... it just took me a couple of views to realize it.

Wilson, Stiller, Vaughn, and Ferrell are perfect, and the laughs keep coming throughout the entire film. Snoop Dogg is a great addition to this film as a high-level snitch.

Final Verdict:

4/5

Rent or Buy?: After a few views opened my eyes I rushed out and picked up a copy of this great comedy. This movie belongs in any comedy fans DVD collection.

You've got three funny characters in this movie... Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn. How can you go wrong! Add Snoop Dogg and you've got yourself a funny movie! It's based on the 70's TV Series Starsky & Hutch. Good item for the Starsky & Hutch Fan.

Old TV Shows are worth revisiting
Review created: 03/07/08

I wasn't a big fan of the old TV series (I watched them when I was a kid!) I was more interested in BJ and the Bear and the Dukes of Hazzard. I remembered the car - like the Dukes. However, I wasn't your average kid and did pay attention. I later became a cop - and those childhood dreams were fueled by alot of the police shows.

This movie has made big improvements to the original series and played well with the old case. Snoop Dog as "Huggy Bear" was hiliarious! You could understand Snoop and he played the part very well. You were looking for Huggy to make his appearance in the movie and wished that he played a bigger roll.

The plot was enteraining. If you expected a good murder mystery or drama, you are looking at the wrong movie. It is light hearted humor and good for laughs. If you are a product of the 70's (even as a child) you will flash back and laugh aloud at the silly little things in this movie. Thank you for taking me back. It was fun and I am glad it was only a visit.

Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson work GREAT together. Ever since "Something About Mary" there has been a good partnership with these too.

Too bad the they trashed a couple of cars in this movie. I want one once again.

It is worth watching and worth purchasing for your collection if you are a fan. I will always be a fan and would watch another Stiller / Owen version of Starsky and Hutch.

  Nothing Like the TV Series…

After watching it for the first time, I did not like it very much. Being a HUGE fan of the TV show, I really did not like what was done with the characters.

The characteristics of Starsky, Hutch & Huggy are totally off base. If you’ve never seen the TV show, watching this movie will not motivate you to do so; which is a shame, because the TV show is SO much better.

The movie was suppose to be about how Starsky & Hutch first met, albeit their friendship starts out on shaky ground. That’s all well and good, but after you meet the person that ends up being your best friend, your personalities won’t totally change from the Ben Stiller / Owen Wilson version to the Paul Michael Glaser / David Soul version. As an example, the Batman prequel, “Batman Begins” has a much better transition to the Michael Keaton era films.

Starsky wasn’t afraid of his car, nor was he wishy-washy and unsure of himself. He handled the car with ease and was confident and aggressive when necessary.

Hutch wasn’t the bad cop-on-the-take, screw-up. He was the health conscious, level-headed, keep-things-calm side of the duo.

Huggy had more style and finesse than what is portrayed by the flashy, pimped-out version in the movie.

Thankfully, the car is as cool as ever and a joy to watch.

Once I was able to set aside my loyalty and comparison to the TV show and watch the movie solely on its merits alone, it wasn’t that horribly bad. There are many funny scenes that are enjoyable, and the car stunts are great.

During the credits at the end of the movie, there is one blooper scene with Snoop Dogg and the iguana that is pretty funny, and if you love the car, there is the blooper during the scene when Hutch sees the car for the first time that will make you just cringe…

All-in-all, the actors did a good job with a good story line, and the scene with the cameo appearances of Paul Michael Glaser and David Soul is enjoyable.

As I watched the movie for the second and third time, it began to grow on me. I really enjoyed the Director’s Cut feature where Todd Phillips takes you through the entire film and explains a lot about the scenes, what was done to them, from adding the computer generated subway at the beginning of the film to telling some behind-the-scenes stories. The story about Snoop Dogg’s 1976 Lincoln is pretty interesting.

I understand the concept and the point of the movie, but my initial dislike was hard to suppress.

I would love to see a new Starsky & Hutch movie with Paul and David back in action!!

IF YOU FOUND THIS REVIEW HELPFUL PLEASE VOTE. THANK YOU !!

If you are a true fan of Starsky and Hutch the TV series, then avoid this. The film should of been called somethink else, because it just takes the mike out of the original series.

The characters are nothing like original charactors, Hutch in the film is always breaking the law....(the opposite to the series). And they make Starsky act dumb in this film (also the opposite to how he is in the series).

The TV series is miles better than this rubbish film, the acting is better too back then. My advice buy the original series on DVD, and avoid this.

Starsky and Hutch - Stiller and Wilson

I was a fan of the Starsky and Hutch TV show. I am a fan of Owen Wilson and Ben Stiller. It is nothing like the TV show and that is a good thing. I was really looking forward to seeing Paul Michael Glaser - when did he show up? The end of the movie. OK, but it was worth it. Owen Wilson and Ben Stiller did wonderful protrayers of Starsky and Hutch. Funny, exciting and totally unlike the Starsky and Hutch that you remember from the 70's! Unlike the professional critics, which I never trust anyway, it was entertaining.

Starsky and Hutch Takes us Back to the Dreaded Seventies
Review created: 08/08/04
by: Bryan_Carey-- a member of Epinions and Advisor in Movies

Pros:
Snoop Dogg's performance; Nostalgia factor

Cons:
Nothing unique about the movie; Have to look at 1970's fashion and culture

The 1970 s were known for many bad things. The fashion was awful. The music was forgettable. The Vietnam War was fought for half of the decade. Nixon served as president for nearly four and one- half of the decades ten years. It was a span of history marked by stagnation and most people were happy when it ended and grateful that its mark on society has been mostly erased. But one area of the 1970 s that was marked with memorable moments was television. And one of those 1970 s hit shows has now been brought to the big screen. It s Starsky and Hutch, a movie that brings together the popular...

Starsky and Hutch - Match Made In Heaven
Review created: 04/15/04
by: Rock_On -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
funny, Stiller has a good movie for once

Cons:
could be better, but then again, most movies "could be better"

Ben Stiller has been very disappointing as of late. His role in Meet the Parents was the last time that he s been in an enjoyable film, and so when the first preview for Starsky and Hutch was shown, needless to say, I was excited. I m not quite old enough to have seen the old Starsky and Hutch series in the 70 s, but being a fan of Owen Wilson and a fan of cop comedies, I couldn t wait to see it. There had been a little drought in new movies coming out, at least in my eyes, but Starsky and Hutch was a nice little refresher to keep theaters alive. The movie Starsky and Hutch starts out with a..

Pros:
Funny and entertaining

Cons:
Silly at times

There are several movies out now or that will be out soon that I want to see. Thankfully work is starting to slow back down for me, so I m getting a chance to go to more movies again. I had a chance to go to a movie today and I ended up seeing Starsky

Starsky and Hutch - well I can't think of a good title right now, okay!?!??!?!

Pros:
Funny, very funny in parts, retro feel, good performances

Cons:
Much more could have been made of some characters (<i>including all_of_the_women</i>), sloppy pacing

Let me make it known from the start, I don t remember ever having seen even a single episode of the original TV series of Starsky and Hutch, so you won t find any comparisons to it here. What I can tell you is that it s a very entertaining and enjoyable film, though I felt it could have been even better. Starring Ben Stiller as the totally straight-laced cop (except when he s driving) David Starsky, while Owen Wilson is the rather more criminally-minded cop (as in he doesn t mind augmenting his pay checks with the occasional illegal profit) Ken Hutchinson (or Hutch , as Hutchinson just isn t..

Pros:
Snoop, Humor, Short-Shorts

Cons:

Genre: Comedy Sub-categories:Cop Comedy, TV Laugh Factor: Some Snorting Look-at-these: No Nudity Synopsis: The legendary Starsky and Hutch are resurrected and brought to the silver screen 25 years after the show met it's end. An unlikely duo fights crime with a little help from their friends. Analysis: I can't help but begin to wonder whether or not perms and paisley will begin making a reintroduction into 21st century fashion. Throwbacks to the 1970's have become pervasive, from Blow and Austin Powers 3 to That 70's Show. Now Starsky
