Excellent for a Stargate: SG1 fan.

You'll notice some plot inconsistencies in the first few episodes, but hey, we can't blame the writers so early on. The 'additional content' is mediocre, as is the DVD menus and such. Still, you get the episodes in widescreen and uncut, which means every once in a while you'll catch something not in the original.

Parental Note: In one of the episodes, Sha-ri is shown fully nude. Other then that, not much beyond fantasy violence.

Excellent series for a Stargate:SG1 fan.

  Stargate SG-1 - Season 1

Entertaining and creative. It stars, among others, a strong female scientist that seems to know everything. She's a strong female role model that the rest of the male team has to listen to because they're not as smart...my 13 year old daughter loves this.

A great season of a television show. "Season 1" is a great way to start watching Stargate. Even if you watched the later seasons and not the earlier ones this is a great way to catch up with old episodes. The "Gift set" is just as good as the other "Box set" or the "5 disc set". The are basicall all the same.

This series is one that sort of accidentally passed me by the first time around. So i went back and started at season 1 and have been hooked since. Great characters and (to me) has a very Star Trek feel to it (minus the space ships of course). Definetely worth the money

  Wonderful Set!
Review created: 03/09/08

The first season of any series is usually the best and this one is no exception! This series ran for 11 years and could have gone longer if Richard Dean Anderson hadn't left the cast. This set is definitely a "KEEPER"! Mike

I decided to buy this set because the Stargate series was one of my favorites. This year, season 10, was the last year of the show, so I decided it would be fun to have a collection of all the shows. This set arrived in excellent condition and I have truly enjoyed every episode. If you like sci-fi, then you would love this set. My goal is to collect all 10 years to enjoy for many years to come.

If You Haven't Seen SG-1, You Need To!
Review created: 08/06/07

I came late to the SG-1 party, having not seen the show until it was beginning its eight season. Once I was hooked, I was eager to catch up on earlier episodes, so I headed to ebay in search of the older DVD sets, which are no longer readily available for retail purchase. I was not disappointed! Even though the first season of SG-1 is ten years old, the stories were remarkably undated(save for a cringe-worthy remark regarding reproductive organs made by Samantha Carter in her introductory scene - a line which the writers good-naturedly lampooned in a later episode). The special effects are absolutely astonishing in their quality, especially compared to the cheese-factor on series such as Dr. Who and Farscape. Okay, so everyone in the known Universe apparently speaks English and most inhabited planets looks suspiciously like Vancouver - but, even classics like Star Trek are guilty of that little bit of xenocentricity. Stargate SG-1 is interesting, entertaining, and full of action and even some edge-of-your seat excitement (think Earth about to sucked into a black hole via a malfunctioning Stargate that can't be closed). Unlike the "plastic" space hero characters of many sci-fi series, the very competent cast delivers believeable portrayals of the gamut of human emotions from sincerely funny humor to livid rage to heartwrenching anguish. I'd easily put it on a level with any of the Star Trek incarnations or the critically acclaimed Battlestar Galactica. It's ironic that in the closing scene of original Stargate movie, upon which the series is based, a key character comments on the adventure that has just taken place, and another replies with, "The adventure is just beginning..." Profoundly prophetic words, as the film spawned 214 episodes of SG-1, and so far, 70 episodes of the SG-1 spin-off, Stargate Atlantis (which is equally amazing in its own right). You really can't call yourself a sci-fi fan if you allow yourself to miss this awesome show!

SG-1 is an excellent Sci-Fi series based on the film "Stargate". Since the series was canceled after its 10th season I wanted to start collecting all them. I didn't start regularly watching until about season 5 so many of the episodes were new to me.

  Stargate SG-1 - Season 1 Gift Set (2001, DVD)

I am a huge fan of SG-1, and to a lesser degree the spin-off Stargate Atlantis. SciFi channel really hit it big with this series, even though there aren't that many shows per season. The early seasons were a fantastic mix of classic Science Fiction and high-tech imagination. Richard Dean Anderson did a fabulous job in the role of Col. O'Neil, and the rest of the cast did an outstanding job in their roles as well (Amanda Tapping is not just eye candy!).

Stargate SG-1 Season 1 Gift Set
Review created: 12/13/06

I love Stargate SG-1. It's a fun sci fi series. The cast is wonderfully talented and captivating. They make watching Stargate SG-1 exciting and fun. Season 1 of Stargate SG-1 is filled with lots of action from military combat missions off world, adventure and suspense on and off world. During the first season you are introduced to the people of Abydos, the Goa'uld, the Nox, the Tollan, Hathor, Cassie as well as other alien races and people from other worlds. As the season progresses we see the characters' personalities shine through and the bonds and relationships between the members of SG-1 form. This is a season of Stargate SG-1 that should not be missed. An absolute must for any Stargate SG-1 fan.

I love this series. Sci-Fi at it's best. Who wouldnt love to just walk through a 'gate' and be on another planet in another galaxy? New worlds to explore. Bad people to destroy and cool weapons to shoot. The characters are very believable. They are serious, smart and funny.

My purchase of Stargaet SG1 Season 1
Review created: 12/04/06
by:

I bought the product because I like the tv series and the movie. The tv series is too far ahead to enjoy it completely. What I most like about the purchase is that the product was better than I expected. It was better than the seller had described it. I didn't like the time it took to arrive; however, I accept that the delivery time wasn't in the seller's hand.

  The One And Only
Review created: 11/03/06(updated 11/03/06)

Take this from a person who did not like sci-Fi series up until
Stargate SG-1. I came across it by chance, and was hooked.
You'll find the writing dialogue is top-notch, the characters themselves
along with the situations can sometimes be stunning. If you are seeing
Stargate for the first time, you will be "Wowed" when you see the
Stargate work for the very first time.
In the first season we find out who the "Real" enemy of the galaxy is;
and that is the Gou'ld. Like me, you'll wonder how the team of SG-1 will get out
of danger (time and again). Season one is never boring; and unlike
other Sci-Fi series doesn't base it's show on a space ship, but right
on Earth. Take note of how strong the characters are. They keep you
interested and don't come off as being phoney. But in the end,
it is the stories and strong writing that will keep you coming back.
The "Pilot" of the series, called, "Childen Of The Gods" takes you
to a world we hadn't dreamed about. The first season and the others
are well worth your money. You'll find it wasn't over-priced after-all. :)

  Stargate SG1 season 1

Having just come off watching the entire series of Farscape and Babylon 5, I was looking for another show to get into. The first season of SG1 has impressed me as being very well made with high production values and good acting. The direction is quite good, lending a very smooth and believable air to it. The story lines so far have been compelling although I miss the romance from Farscape. We'll see how this changes as I make my way through the series. All in all, I'd recommend SG1 season 1 to anyone who likes sci-fi.

I bought these because I love the show. I love how well the characters were written and the actors wasted no time getting into their roles. You can feel the interest between Carter and O'Neil on their fist meeting.

Well conceived series. By far one of my favorite Sci-Fi series.

by: luclin999 -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Entire first season of a consistantly good Sci-Fi series in one set.

Cons:
Video quality from episode to episode is a mixed bag.

I had heard many good things about this series from friends but since I didn't have cable at the time, I never had a chance to see this show in its first run on Showtime. I had to wait until it was aired in syndication before I had the chance to catch it for myself. The Premise Stargate SG-1 is a science fiction series based upon the 1994 movie: Stargate. For those of you who have not seen either the movie or the television series, The idea behind the show is that a race of aliens came to Earth thousands of years ago and ruled over humanity by posing as the Gods of ancient myth. After...

Travel Through the Stargate -- For Science Fiction Adventure!
Review created: 01/02/08
by: dlstewart -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
21 episodes including the pilot, some DVD extras, excellent acting and stories

Cons:
no detailed commentary regarding the episodes; lackluster features

Stargate has ended its tenth season, and now direct-to-video movies are being made. I have never seen Stargate SG-1 Season One in its entirety. That's why I purchased this DVD collection (five discs containing all 21 episodes of Season One and five small featurettes about the characters and series in general). I actually discovered five episodes on these DVDs that I had never seen offered during reruns on television. The Stargate Universe in Brief Stargates are alien devices that form a stable wormhole between other planets. The Stargates span galaxies. In the movie that started the Stargate..

Pros:
Great concepts, intriguing characters, great acting, fun aliens

Cons:
A few story weaknesses, weak video quality, not a lot of extras

Note that this will spoil the ending of the Stargate movie. Who knew that when the movie Stargate came out that it would eventually spawn one of the longest running sci-fi series ever? The movie wrapped everything up pretty nicely, Ra s dead, Daniel is on Abydos with his wife, the team makes it home, Jack is no longer suicidal. If there were no additions to the story it would be a fine ending. However, finding an extension of the story really isn t that difficult: make the stargate open to other worlds and put some more aliens out there. Executing that may not be so easy, but SG-1 pulls it...

Pros:
Strikingly good series, better than the movie and stronger first season than most tv.

Cons:
A few weak shows, but it is their first season.

I am a veteran sci fi fan. I have been to the conventions, but I have not worn ears. I would have been watching this show from the beginning if I had had the cable channel it aired on. The movie Stargate I have seen a number of time and always felt that it was good, but missing something, some je ne sais quoi to make it really fabulous. Then I saw Independence Day by the same guys and knew they had put all they had into that movie, sad. To my great fortune I didn't know that the series was brought to us by the same people who did Sliders or I never would have looked at it. Some how the series.

Video and sound quality

This TV series is based on a movie "Stargate" which was directed by Roland Emmerich in 1994. In the movie, scientists discover a mysterious ring in the Egyptian desert. The ring is somehow brought to USA military secret base in Cheyenne mountain. The military is trying to decipher the writing and in doing so enlist the help of dr. Daniel Jackson (James Spader).
