Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace (2001, DVD)

Being a Star Wars collector for over 25 years now, true, this is the least favorite edition of the 6 films.

JAR JAR BINKS, no way!!!!

I did rate this a 5 because I am the fan I say I am.

Do enjoy all the special features on the DVD package.

Jake Lloyd's lack of acting skills no help. George did let the pod race & end battles go on too long.

I, like most people, adore the first three Star Wars movies. They hold a very cherished place in my heart. Phantom Menace, however, is absolutely horrible to the point where I find it unwatchable. The story, acting, pacing...everything is just SO BAD. Don't waste your time watching it and DEFINITELY don't waste your money. I wouldn't buy a DVD of Phantom Menace for one cent to use as a coaster, such is my hatred for it.

I actually bought these for my daughter, but never having seen them, I am watching them first before I send them on to her. They are in excellent condition and I am enjoying them.

i found this dvd on the sellers sight. It was one of the first items I bought. this seller was fast and kind and the dvd was it great shape never used. I was very surprized. Thanks again. It was the only dvd that I didn't have to finish my collection

I am kind of biased here but I have grown up on the original star wars trilogy and though episode 1 lacks a little of the luster that went with the original 3, I still thoroughly enjoy it! Great Movie I recommend it!

No movie ever got so many people excited and then left them hanging more than Episode I: The Phantom Menace. Sixteen years of waiting were hard for many Star Wars fans to stomache. I will give you the Pros/Cons of several aspects of the movie.

Pros -
1) Music - John Williams once again. Duel of the Fates is one of the better chorale songs to come out in a long time!

2) Actors - Liam Niessen, Samuel L. Jackson, Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman. These are excellent actors and have done some other work that is exceptional.

3) Effects - The special and digital effects of the film are impressive from the opening scene. Coruscant and the Senate Chamber are stunning!

Cons -
1) Jar Jar - seriously the most annoying character in any film. C-3PO doesn't compare even at his whiniest.

2) Not enough fighting - the lightsaber duel at the end of the film was amazing. Maul and Obi-Wan seriously kick trash. There is simply not enough of it though!

3) Jake Lloyd - at least make him a little older. The kid is irritating beyond all reason!

4) George Lucas is not a good director. This could have been such an amazing movie. He is a storyteller and doesn't know how to get the best out of his actors.

Overall, a decent movie but not anywhere near as good as it could have been.

I loved how this movie helps to start the tie in of the nearly 30 yr old Star Wars trilogy. It brings the characters alive and shows who Anakin Skywalker, later to be known as Darth Vader, is and where he came from and is discovered. Excellent movie....graphics are good. Highly recommended for your collection.

Disc was in good condition but shipping was horribly slow. I was never told that it would be so long so if I was told I would not have been so bothered by shipping taking almost two weeks.

When watched in series with the remaining 5 this movie fits right in.
Lucas did a wonderful job of bring us back in time from episodes IV, V, & VI.
It is a must have if you are going to own the trilogy.

This is a fantastic movie, however, I never recieved my dvd that I purchased because the person was a cheat I suppose. However, I highly recommend this movie to anyone who loves a good action sci-fi film.

I finaly got the entire Star Wars Series. I even have the MTv Cartoon and the only thing I need is the Wookie and Ewak movies. Then it would be Perfect!

MY HUSBAND AND I ARE STAR WARS FANS AND SHOW IT WAS AT NO LOST TO BUY THIS MOVIE. I LOVE THE CUSTOM AND THE CHARACTERS AND THE FIGHT SCENE ARE UNBELIEVABLE. IT IS NICE TO SEE HOW IT ALL STARTED.

After many anticipated "light" years the saga is told from the beginning. Young Aniken is played by a delightful actor. All the characters are entertaining, even Jar Jar Binks!!! With the advancement of special effects since the original Star Wars was filmed, a real treat for sci-fi fans of all ages.

This is our least favorite of the Star Wars movies, but good nonetheless. If Jar Jar Binks wasn't so annoying (or in the movie altogether) this would have been a better movie. Excellent action scenes with the podracing, Darth Maul Duel, and underwater chase. Good movie to see the beginnings of all the characters we've seen in episodes 4-6.

I've had an overwhelming number of positive experiences on eBay - except for those involving DVD purchases.

This experience was another example of "buyer beware". I won the auction, paid for my DVD (fortunately through a 3rd party payment service), and was notified eBay suspended the seller's account for unspecified reasons. I was able to get my money back, but I'm still wanting this DVD.

Most of my dealings with DVD sellers have been trial and error. I have found some reputable sellers that I will stick with in future. I find it mildy ironic that all the sellers I've had trouble with have been from FL. Coincidence? Perhaps, but I'm less likely to deal with sellers from that state now.

I would have liked to be able to view the entire movie. We had to skip parts because the movie stuck there. This movie should have been discarded not sold.

After so many years the world's beloved Star Wars returns for a new trilogy just so you'll have to watch it so you can find out all about young Kenobi and Vader. The Jedi are a prominent authority figure in this series and we will eventually get to see their downfall by the hands of the Sith. Darth Maul is the best part because he is one of the most awesome bad guys ever. How could the Jedi defeat him? Kind of lame to find out but you will. Not as classic as the original trilogy but still a great start to a new world of Star Wars. Must watch. 4/5
