Living Colour's original sound from their first few albums (Vivid, Time's Up, Biscuits) was just incredible. These guys had it figured out. My biggest regret in regards to this band is that I did not see them play live before they split up.
Flash forward (or, in retrospect, back) to "Stain", their last full album release, and you have a totally different sound. Anger, rage, power, bitterness, blown through your speakers (or headphones) without regret or apology. These CD is pure, raw emotion and it is amazing. If you liked Living Colour's orignal sound (i.e. Cult of Personality), you may find this CD to be a little hard to swallow. But if you love hard rock with jazz infused bass lines and a drummer that can deliver a backbeat from hell, plug in, hold on and enjoy.
Living Colour continues to record and tour with changes in the line-up, but the power of "Stain" will never be duplicated. Truly a rock & roll classic.

Well I didnt really buy it to listen to It.This is a good band with some really good songs. I have not yet listened to it yet. I bought it beacause I recently bought a autographed cover of the same title and needed the (CD) to put in the frame that i do with all my music autographs to enhance the effect of my autographed music collection. ( Which exceeds over 200 signed music bands from all eras).I will listen to it a few times before framing because I like all sounds of our music history.Otherwise Im very pleased with both purchases I made. Thanks, Ron Eavenson

What's Your Favorite Colour, Baby??: LIVING COLOUR

Pros:
Intelligent head-banging goodness.

Cons:
Weird techno experiments and a poem by some guy about weed. Huh?

Contrary to what MTV circa 2004 and your average alterna station may convey to you-Black folks do rock as hard a anyone. It sort of unsettling to me that bands like Korn and the Chili Peppers blare on rock radio when if you're not Lenny Kravitz and you have an ounce of melanin, you ain't goin' nowhere, buddy. Thankfully, it's not always been that way. From 1988-93 or so, Living Colour was one of the premiere rock bands around, scoring Grammys, hit albums and loads of critical acclaim. With virtuoso guitarist Vernon Reid at the helm, the foursome gleefully thrashes through a sonic stew that...

Pros:
Great earlier 90's metal

Cons:
Too much pessimism from an optimistic band

Having discovered Living Colour only a few years ago I quickly absorbed their first two albums: Vivid and Time's Up. These albums are different but they both have the same optimistic tone that first drew me to this magnificent band. However, when I first saw the cover of STAIN, I knew that I was in for a different sort of rock and roll roller coaster. I naively expected a grouping of upbeat hard rock/metal songs that spoke about blatant optimism. I couldn't have been more wrong. Maybe that's a little harsh... "The Wall" is a exquisitely crafted song about breaking down the wall of racism and..

Pros:
A great listen

Cons:
Not perfect, not their best album

Living Colour is one of the best rock bands on the 90s, and Stain is their last album before breaking up. It features a slightly different line-up then their other albums, which is always not a good sign. The album is largely great, but has several week songs. The best song is Nothingness, which is very lush and moving. The overall strength of the album is what is good with all living colour albums: Superiour musicianship. These guys can play so well. Vernon Reid is arguably the best guitar player out there. However, the lyrics do tend to be either preachy or totally silly, such as Bi, a song.
