I love this cartoon, story, colors, some bits taken from japanese legends, frightening in spots, had hoped to watch this with a 9 year old, am not sure parts may be very disturbing. Im a big fan of miazakis cartoons, hope to buy more when I can.

Pros:
well acted, absolutely beautiful.

Cons:
...

I waited patiently for this, really I did. I resisted the urge to download the film and watch it free of charge, and I managed to resist that despite the fact that for nearly an entire year I was hearing none stop compliments about Miyazaki's Spirited Away. Hearing about how it was one of the best animated movies ever made, about how it transcended the expected boundaries of an animated film to become one of the most absorbing films ever. I even saw his previous film Princess Mononoke and immediately placed it among the top animated films of all time, and I was still hearing that Spirited...

  Spirited Away: Chihiro in Wonderland
Review created: 11/10/02

Pros:
nearly everything

Cons:
very few

Enticed into its multifaceted world much like Chihiro s own inciting incident (which begins almost immediately upon the film s opening) Hayao Miyazaki s Spirited Away is something of an immaculate art work triumph (much like his other films) gripping, not only in its swirl of animated phantasmagoria, but in its ardent sense of innocence and transmogrification. It s a Japanese rearranged-rendition of Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan fused with old world Japanese myth and presented in what appears to be Japanese anime merged with the Waking Life rotoscope/computer art, but don t quote me on...

Pros:
The story and vision of Miyazaki are translated beautifully

Cons:
Release to theaters was somewhat limited

"Spirited Away" is a journey of the mind and a journey for the eyes that has been created by acclaimed Japanese animation director Hayao Miyazaki. Not only did its Oscar win for Best Animated Feature put the film back in the theaters, but the win came at a time where the film was about to go to home video. With a film that struck me as very impressive, I'm glad I made time for "Spirited Away" when it played in theaters. "Spirited Away" starts as a journey from a family's old home to their new one, but the journey takes an unexpected turn when they get lost. They find themselves in a place...

Spirited Away (Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi) ---- 2003 Oscar winner for Best Animated Feature

Pros:
complex story, interesting characters, very good film

Cons:
can be confusing at times, a tad long

Spirited Away, the English translation of Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi, is an animated film that came out in 2001, but finally made it to the U.S. in 2002. It was such a good film, that it ended up taking home the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. It's not the easiest thing to pin down this movie into a single category in regards to what it is about, but lets just say it explores the world of spirits in an interesting and sometimes funny way. The real trick to enjoying Spirited Away, is to set aside any preconceived notions of what the film should be like, and just enjoy the movie for.

Good Movies Write Off - "Spirited Away"

Pros:
Great animation, story, humour, dialogue, characters, very surreal...

Cons:
... unless it's too surreal for you then really there are no cons at all!

We decided that it was high time we saw some anime, since it was something that had previously eluded us but we d heard so much about it. Getting hold of anime in high street stores in the UK isn t necessarily very easy even in the bigger stores, but it s gaining a decent fan base over here. Companies such as Optimum Releasing are now catering for this niche market and producing English releases with proper dubbing on region 2 DVDs. I suspect that we re rather behind the US market in the anime stakes, but maybe we can catch up. So where does someone with no real idea about anime start? Having.
