Speed Racer - Collector's Edition (2003, DVD)

My 5 year old heard about Speed Racer from a friend at day care and asked to buy the toy car. It brought back memeories of watching the cartoon with my brother as a child, so I purcased it from e-bay. I really like the characters and car racing as the main them; my little boy was mesmerized by the first few episodes and loved it. He loves not only Speed Racer, Racer X but their little brother and the chimp who keeps him laughing. This is really a classic collection that I will treasure and pass onto my grandchildren. It's so much better for children viewing than some of the extremely violent cartoons on TV today.

My 5 years old son is fascinated with this cartoons, he love the mix of race cars and crashing cars. I can see him enjoy them the same way I did more than 25 years ago and continue the adventure with his hotwheel cars.

Kids saw the movie, then I purchased the DVD collectors edition. They watch it daily!

Highly recommend getting this set. Took me back to my ejoyable times watching this TV show as a kid myself.

My hubby loves it. Brings back great memories for him. This set is a fantastic addition to your collection. Original cartoons, unlike the new "too super-modified" movie that is out now in theaters. Packaging on the DVD's are average, but hey, who's buying it for the container anyway?

we bought this for my son {and us} we by the classic cartoons for him to watch so he can enjoy the shows we watched as kids. we feel these are better shows for kids to watch than whats on tv.

This volume is the 1rst of a series of 5 that I own.
I did not buy the cool collectible version with real tire rubber cover, but if you're looking to give it as a gift to someone, it would certainly be a good choice.
If you're a fan of Speed Racer you'll want it to complete your collection.
It tells the adventures of Speed Racer, a young man who, for a living AND for fun, races the cars that his father Pop Racer builts. Speed's crew is made of his younger brother Spritle, the monkey Chim-Chim, the beautiful Trixie and Sparky, the mechanic.
This volume contains the first 11 episodes (5 adventures), including : 'Challenge of the Masked Racer' and the 'Mammoth Car', a Fan's favorite + extras. It will truly bring back great memories if you were lucky enough to watch the show about 30 years ago.
Animation is far from today's standard (so what?) and storytelling is pretty simplified but nonetheless captivating.
The only thing that is sometimes annoying is the audio quality (dolby monaural).
If you've only seen the horrible 1997 series, this has nothing to do with it. This is the original Masterpiece that will be engraved in many a child's memory, even today.
Yes, the villains sometimes use guns, yes people crash and die, but it's done in such a way that it is way less violent than today's series. It's the rythm. kids (and adults) are fascinated because they CAN follow what's happening thanks to an Old School pace.
I don't recommend it for kids under the age of 5, though, and like for everything else, I recommend you watch it first and make your own judgement.

These speed racer dvd's are great, I use to watch them when i was a child about 30 years ago and when the movie was advertised it was coming out in 2008 i started thinking of the original carton series I watched as a kid and I had to have them

My husband watched this cartoon as a child; so we got it for our children. They enjoy watching it, too.

I have been a Speed Racer fan since childhood and this DVD is a must-have for any Speed fans. It comes with a total of twelve episodes and you can either play a specific episode from the main menu or set it to play all episodes. It contains several two or three part episodes including one of my favorites with Speed taking on the challenge of the masked racer. I am very happy with the purchase and recommend it to anyone, especially at this price.

The Speed Racer Season One DVD Collector's Edition is a must have for any fan. The outer cover box is decorated with real rubber to make a tire tread around the logo/title. The dvd itself is well done, well restored as to not to betray it's true age. It has 13 episodes, most are two parters including the 2 part pilot episode "The Great Plan"..."Mystery of the Masked Racer" ( which introduces Racer X) and fan fave "The Mammoth Car". The video brought back great memories of my childhood as I introduced it to my six year old. My only negative would be that the extras, where rather brief and seemed to be added on as an after thought. Great dvd for any fan!

Dvd is high quality, with great episodes. The dvd includes extra info about the great Speed Racer and includes bonus material. I purchased the video fo rmy son, but the episodes actually held my interest as well. All in all, a great dvd at an unbeatable price. You can't go wrong!

Bought item for collectible. Will leave unopened and will buy another Speed Racer DVD to open and watch.

it cintained the first 5 episodes and he loved it.

Bought this DVD for my 30 year old son's birthday gift. He's never seen the original series. He LOVES it !!!

The product was unopened as promised. And the DVD was exactly as advertised - just what we needed. And the delivery was expedient as it arrived in plenty of time for Christmas!

I am not though I bought this for my husband he loves this grew up with it, but he didn't have long when he showed it to my son it's now in my 3 year olds room being worn out ,but darn if that song isn't driving me nuts.

I found this item while I was just having fun searching for race car items for my boyfriend. Speed Racer happened to be on the list of items. The show was his favorite TV show when he was a child and since as an adult he drives a formula continental race car as a hobby, I thought it would be a great Christmas gift. It was an awesome gift and the packaging was like a rubber tire material. A hit with him years ago and now, and certainly a rare find. The cost was great for such a piece of memorabilia. Great item for those race car lovers who want to take a drive back in time to the early 70's.

The Speed Racer DVD arrived in great shape. My son really enjoys watching it and I have to admit, so do I.
