  Best Oukast CD Yet!!!!
Review created: 12/19/07
by:

I saw a great buy on eBay and I decided to get it. My two favorite songs are Roses and Hey Ya!. This Cd comes with two discs and it is like Andre 3000's and Big Boi's solo albums. If you like Hip-Hop you will like Andre 3000's half and if you like Rap/Hip-Hop you will like Big Boi's half. Big Boi has Speakerboxxx and Andre 3000's is called The Love Below. If you're a big fan I hope you will buy this cd and I hope you enjoy it.

  Good Experience

Shipping was fast. The cd is in good condition, I haven't had any problems with skipping. The cd case was broken, but I didn't mind too much since I really didn't need it anyway. Overall it was a good buying experience and I'll most likely buy more cds from this seller.

  Another amazing Outkast CD!
Review created: 10/09/06

I have long been a fan of Outkast... and after purchasing their most recent album "Idlewild", I only needed this CD to complete my collection. It is simply amazing. No rap/r&b out there can compare to it, because it is so different and original in style. I'd highly recommend it!

  Outkast Favorite

This double CD features music by both artist individually. It is one of my favorites. One for the gym and the other to cruise to. You'll like the freshness of all these tunes. Outkast never disappoints.

  the the roses song!
Review created: 09/07/06

I have wanted this cd for a long time and every time I looked in a cd store, they either did not have it or it was very expensive. I started doing ebay and thought I would check it out and I found one. The roses song is my favorite and is the main reason I wanted the cd. I love the cd and I'm glad I bought it. I couldn't wait for it to get here and it came in time for my trip. Thanks a bunch to the guy who sold it to me. Kim

Is It Good If You've Got To Think About It . . . ?
Review created: 04/08/06

Is an album good if you have to think about whether you like it or not? In the very least it makes it an interesting and provoking album. Some people dig this, some people don't -- all you need to know is that you're not getting one two-disc album, you are getting two one-disc albums. Because of that, there are two wildly disparate sound qualities.

I think the greatest failing of this effort -- and it's a minor "greatest" -- is that it sits exactly at the cross-streets of hip hop and rap. One on kitty-corner, you've got Andre Benjamin's THE LOVE BELOW, and on the other it's Antwan Patterson's SPEAKERBOXXX. I'm not going to get into the semantics of hip hop's definition except to say 'BOXXX is a more logical extension of the path of Outkast whereas 'BELOW is entirely something else -- oddly, I feel 'BELOW is deeper entrenched in hip hop while 'BOXXX is less so.

This, I know, seems counter-intuitive because there's simply more rapping on 'BOXXX and, what the heck? Singing on 'BELOW?

'BOXXX is a marvelous Dirty South record. It's lyrically heads & shoulders above almost anything coming out of that region, for my money. Some of it is made for the radio, and all of it is well-produced. It's got mass appeal, and I'm fairly certain it would have been pretty popular if Outkast wasn't already popular to begin with. Everyone tells me their first cd is the best, and honestly I haven't listened to it. From what I gather, I think people have come to a firm conclusion of what Outkast was all about, and 'BOXXX is certainly in-tune with that musical vision. Big Boi is a playa and a bit of a hustla. I imagine him in gators and toothpicks whenever I think of him, not to mention the platinum fronts. He's phenomenally gifted as a verbal stylist and has really come into his own.

Whenever there is a two-man hip hip group, I tend to immediately rank one as the head and the other as the disciple. For instance, it's clear that amongst Tribe Called Quest, Q-Tip has the chops while Phife was still learning with their first cd (that little guy barely even features). Black Eyed Peas is mostly Will I am, with everyone else thrown in for color. Sometimes this ranking is unfair and ill-placed. Latyrx, for example, is composed of equally talented emcees.

I've always considered Andre3000 to be the more talented of the group, but I thnk it's fairer to say he is the more daring. Once Outkast really started riding that rocket to worldwide acceptance and acclaim, the divergence of styles was clear. Andre would wear odd clothes, wigs, etc. Gone was the Southern playa pimp role, replaced by something a bit futuristic and not a little feminine. Fans would still appreciate Dre because he was still on-topic and brutally fearsome lyrically. There's a divine confidence that imbues Dre, which has resulted in an album some fans have considered an actual slap in the face. 'BELOW. Singing? About love? COME ON! The thing is, one of the limitations of rap is that no matter how good rap is, it's always this speech. A rapper tells you what's on his mind. Sometimes there is a story involved, but usually it's very abstract. In 'BELOW, Dre becomes the story. Eminem is good at this sort of thing. Lyrics Born is great at this. I'm sure there are plenty of captains in this industry, but I'm running out of space. 'BELOW is an honest story about falling in love and losing it. It weaves in and out of narrative, illustrating it with punchy tracks as well as points of introspection.

"Rubbing Shoulders and Scratching Dandruff" - Speakerboxxx/The Love Below
Review created: 03/13/04
by: tkd_grant -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Creativity, Some good tracks on both albums

Cons:
Both albums are hit and miss when it comes to good songs

Ok, I admit it... I m one of those people who never paid much attention to the Outkast until their latest album(s) boasted the two widely-appealing, overplayed singles, Hey Ya! and The Way You Move . Even though the two over-hyped lead singles didn t appeal to me at first, they sure have grown on me (especially the latter), slowly but surely. I still wasn t sure if the album would be worth the buy, but after reading so many positive reviews on this two-disc album, I decided to join the club, and purchased Speakerboxxx/The Love Below my first Outkast album (or hip-hop album for that matter).

My Dogs Share Their Thoughts on the New Outkast Record
Review created: 10/16/03
by: plorentz -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Andre will make your dogs horny.

Cons:
Big Boi will make your dogs feel confused.

In a study conducted by the National Canine Defense League (NCDL), Dr. Deborah Wells states: It is well established that music can influence our moods. Classical music, for example, can help to reduce levels of stress, whilst grunge music can promote hostility, sadness, tension and fatigue. It is now believed that dogs may be as discerning as humans when it comes to musical preference. The NCDL s study found that among impounded dogs, the ones that had listened to classical music were quieter, calmer, and generally well-behaved, while dogs who were subjected to heavy metal music tended to be..

Outkast: Dr. Prince and Mr. Rhyme
Review created: 09/25/03
by: Stairway2Drew-- a member of Epinions and Advisor in Music

Pros:
Unbridled, unapologetic creativity....

Cons:
....but maybe a little too much of it.

"Ain't no uno, we're a duo, deuce, dos, two, a pair," Antwan "Big Boi" Patton raps about his Outkast partner-in-rhyme Andre 3000 on Speakerboxxx, his half of Outkast's double-disc, Janus-ized opus Speakerboxxx/The Love Below; on another track, he asserts that "Outkast is everlastin'/ not clashin', not at all/ but see my n*gga went to do a little actin'." Well, Mr. Patton, thanks for assuring us all. Uh, so when y'all gonna show up on the same disc again? Come on, you know you wanted to know. Where was Outkast gonna go next? After two albums of smart Dirty South G-funk (ATLiens and...

Outkast's Speakerboxxx / The Love Below: Separating the Split Personalities...
Review created: 06/26/04
by: shilmafone -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Andre's a wackjob, Big Boi likes to party

Cons:
More filler than a padded bra (or codpiece, in the name of gender equality)

Can somebody explain to me why this hasn't happened before? Perhaps it's the scary implications that make last year's release of Outkast's Speakerboxxx / The Love Below such a unique event. As the majority of the world no doubt knows at this point, Outkast's newest release is actually a double CD, where each CD is basically a solo album for one of Outkast's two primary members; Big Boi gets Speakerboxx, where Andre (Ice Cold!) 3000 gets The Love Below. Obviously, this throws gas on the proverbial fire of the rumor mill. "They're going to break up!" "They're not speaking to each other!" "Andre.

Big Boi and Andre 3000's Speakerboxxx/The Love Below: Think Out Of The Box
Review created: 09/23/03
by: roheblius -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Creativity

Cons:
Might be too unconventional for some

If there was ever a time to open your mind along with your ears on an album from a commercial rap group, this is the time. In what is a risk as far as album sales are concerned for Outkast, rather than do Stankonia II, they come back with a double album of their solo records. Confused? Don't be. Andre 3000 and Big Boi recorded solo discs and they put them together as one double disc CD. The reason it is risky is because as Outkast, they have been more popular after every record they've released. They're true fans will still probably be there. But people who just listened to their latest album.
