Sony PSP - Handheld game system - black

The PSP is a great handheld system, with a few drawbacks.

The PSP has a great screen size, and very good graphics. There are already games out for it that I'm hooked on, (Lumines and Tiger Woods Golf for example). There are also quite a few games coming out soon that look great too.

The PSP is a comfortable size, fits easily in your hands, and is not so small you'll get cramps easily (a problem I used to have with Gameboy Advance). Loading cartridges is easy and smooth, and the removable memory card is great not only for storing saved games, but can also be used for MP3s, which can be played through the PSP.

The PSP is also able to play movies, although normally the movies have to have been recorded to the PSPs proprietary media (the little mini DVDs that the games come on)

My biggest beef with the PSP is the sound. The sound is fairly good for games, but in my opinion leaves alot to be desired for movies and music. The quality is fairly good, but the sound volume is only moderate. My problem with it is if I'm watching an action movie, I want the special effects to be LOUD and in your face. Even with the ear buds, the sound doesn't go above a moderate volume level. This doesn't only hurt movies and MP3s, but there are some games that have an sound ambiance that really benefits at high volume.. and the PSP doesn't deliver that. I understand that it may be the best technology could pack into such a small package with so many other functions, but for me sound is so important.

I do enjoy playing the PSP, the games are great, the graphics are great, and I expect great things in the future. For portable movies and music, however, I'll look elsewhere.

I give the PSP a 4/5. It's a great system, and lots of fun.


Edit: Since writing this review, Sony has released upgrades to the PSP firmware that provides a volume booster. This has largely corrected the one thing that I felt was a downside to this product.

I decided to buy the PSP since I hear that it is more advanced than a Nintendo DS. Also it came with great accessories.

I have a new found love for the psp. The old style I find easier to grab onto, being not so thin as the newer ones. Still, it has an excellent range of games and a wonderful capacity for music and movies! All around great 'toy' to take with you on trips, while waiting in the Doctor's office, or anywhere you find yourself needing a distraction.
This wonderful little gadget also has some limited capabilities of getting online!
Its screen clarity cannot be matched. I was quite impressed with this feature.
I would recomend one to anyone wanting multi-featured fun in a portable size!

The PSP is a handheld game system by Sony. The 4.3" inch LCD screen is the largest of all handheld currently as of May 2008 and it is 16:9 widescreen. It is able to play mp3, hold JPEG photos, and all of these are powered up by a Lithium- Ion battery that is rechargable with the included AC adapter.

Music and photos and movies can be transferred to the Playstation Portable via the USB cord. You don't really need to buy movie formats for the psp to actually play it on the PSP, just use a program on the computer to convert the movie format into MPEG-4 or MP4 and it should be able to play absolutely on the PSP if your memory card can hold the size which is not that big usually around 200 megabytes. The PSP supports Memory Sick Pro Duo memory cards and I really recommend a 1 GB or 2 GB card to carry files or 4 GB or above if you have the money. There are countless things in which the PSP can do which I cannot disclose here :).

For those who have "beef" with the PSP's sound system, it is a stero system that is meant to be portable. If you want action movies to slam you in the face with the sound effects, then i suggest you carry around a boombox and connect it to the audio port in the psp. The sound is above decent to me and really varies depending on the game. For example, Final Fantasy Crisis Core has really good sound and music. This is probably because the size on the UMD disk takes up a larger space (ie 1.7 gb) compared to a game that has not so good sound (ie 0..5 gb). If you are buying the psp for sound, then I suggest you get an mp3 player or a portable DVD player not the psp. But if you are here for the gaming ability of the PSP which delivers GREAT graphics, then this is your thing, and consider all the other functions like music, photos, videos, and skype (on the slim psp) extras. Sony is a company that releases regular updates or Firmwares to the PSP which corrects bugs or just improvements for the system to play higher graphic games. Sony has also released a Volume Booster to make the game sound incredibly loud. The Firmware is currently 3.90 and it all started from 1.5 Firmware. Many improvements have been made because Sony releases these updates which shows that it cares.

The PSP is truly portable as you can play it anywhere you want to because it has a backlight which lets you play in total darkness. The battery typically lasts about 4 hours and you can extend this by lowering the brightness on the screen. There are four modes, darkest, dark, bright, brightest, in that order and i just made these names up. Obviously going onto the darkest extends your battery and if you want, you can always carry around an extra fully charged PSP battery to play on the long road trips.

As you all know, the PSP has a wi-fi internet switch where you can access the internet via wi-fi. If you have a wireless router in your home, then yes the PSP can go onto the internet. If you go to coffee shops with free wi-fi, then yes you can access the internet.

You can play with other players by switching the wi-fi button on. This feature doesn't require internet access so you only need to be close to other PSP systems. This is the Ad-Hoc method way of connecting so you make sure all the game systems have their ad-hoc setting on automatic or pick the same channel in the network settings. The other way of playing Multiplayer Games is to Infrastructure Mode. With this you can play online with other players and you need a wi-fi hotspot along with a PS

This is an unique game console. I've PSP Star Wars Edition. It's pleasure, I relax when I'm playing with it. It has a lot of extras. I like it more than older psp consoles (psp 1000).

I enjoy the Sony PSP very much. I enjoy having a portable video game system in my possession, particularly when traveling on the road. With that, I have something to do. I have decided to buy it because I saw a good deal on eBay and that I want a PSP to be able to play my two games.

Great for the kids , I haven't seen them since I got it. I also like the extra features it has such as internet availability and the 4 GB memory stick is great for saving any information.

I bought a used handheld PSP. THe system has great graphics & picture for game play or for the movies. I like it for how versitile it is. YOU can play games, movies, music, or go onto the web browser. It can do alot more then other handheld game systems. Games are not a bad price either. Has stock battery which gives 4 hours of game play , which ain't to bad. Can plug into home outlet & keep playing if you want. Also has USB cable to download music/movies & games. Have no dislikes about the system. Bought this system for more portiable gaming.GRAB & PLAY!
