The SONY NP-BG1 Rechargeable Litium Ion Battery is a must for many of the SONY Cybershot Digital Cameras.
I believe there are, currently, one or two versions of the SONY Cybershot that use rechargeable AA Batteries. My recommendation is to invest a little more and get one of the Cybershots (see my review of the Sony Cybershot DSC-W55) that require the SONY NP-BG1 Rechargeable Litium Ion Battery, simply for the longer battery life. It is more than worth the extra investment.
If you happen to be a die-hard photo-junkie, I also recommend that you get one, possibly two, extra of these NP-BG1's (I have four). You will find it to be well worth the investment when you're out in some remote area, on a photo-shoot, and you need the additional battery(ies). The factory spec says the battery is good for 150 minutes of shooting ( translated - about 340 to 360 frames). But, this does not include your time spent reviewing previously shot frames, making adjustments to your camera settings, use of the Flash, etc. I recently spent two weeks in the Philippine Islands and, found myself really, really glad I had three of these batteries!
Also, I recommend that you completely "drain" the battery, then recharge it before your first actual use. This will "train" the battery and, you'll find you can get a bit more use from your first use of the battery. If you do not perform this step, at the very least fully charge the battery when you initially receive it, as the battery is not fully charged when shipped. And, if you leave the battery plugged into the charger for about an hour or so longer, you'll also get a bit of extra use from each charge.
One final note, DO NOT purchase any "aftermarket" batteries. For all I know, there may not even be such a thing. I only mention this as, I recently acquired an "accessory" for my Cybershot that was from an "aftermarket" manufacturer...and guess what...IT DIDN'T FIT! Stick with the SONY OEM products.

I bought the Sony NP-BG1 Battery two weeks ago and was immediately impressed the stored of power for my digital camera. The NP-BG1 features Lithium-ion technology which ensures maximum battery life and maximum power. It’s also quick charging, so you’ll spend less time waiting and more time taking pictures.Overall, I'd recommend the Sony NP-BG1 Battery if you're on a budget.

Small and lightweight, Sony's type G Lithium-ion battery can be charged or discharged at anytime without developing memory effect. This means it never lose the ability to hold a full charge. It also displays remaining battery time on the LCD as well as in the viewfinder by continuously communicating with the camera. # Up to 270 shots or viewing time of up to 120 minutes on single charge.
These batteries are great I have two, so I never have to go without my camera. They charge really fast and hold a charge for longer than the the rechargeable double AA. When they first came out they were really expensive, but now they are even more reasonably priced.

Overall a good battery for my sony cybershot dsc-w55, takes about 15-hours to charge it and lasts about 3-hrs. My camera came with one battery, and since it takes so long to charge it, I bought another battery to use while the first one is charging. Since this is the only battery available for my camera, I really had no other choice, but all in all it works well and less expensive than batteries I have bought for other brands of cameras.

Battery was a good price but Shipping&Handling was notI needed a back up battery for my Sony DSC-h7 camera. I wanted an original Sony. I checked the price at the local Best Buy and it was $39.99 + $4.00 tax. I found a lot of after market batteries on ebay but I went for the Sony for about the same price. All the batteries on ebay have high shipping & handling prices ($6.99 to $9.99) . I won the bid at $17.38 + $8.95 shipping and handling. Shipping ( USPS First Class )cost for this item was less than one dollar. I did save money on this battery by buying on ebay.

At the $49.95 retail price you might be a little squimish however this rechargable battery (needs separate Sony charger) gets very, very long life. For my Sony DSC-W90 which I just took on a week long cruise -armed with 2 Sony NP-BG1 batteries - we did the port of long beach, the cruise ship, Avalon, and our port in mexico - plus some pic's enroute to Long Beach and back to AZ. 2 Batteries - used 1 and 1/5 for the whole trip. I think that you will agree - thats about $50 worth of 2 AA's..... HEL

I bought the battery because I needed one right away, mine had just given out on me.I was looking on Ebay for a while and found the seller to be reliable and inexpensive so decided to bid and I ended up winning the item. I recieved the item and it works perfectly fine and it was an origional Sony battery just as described. So I was satisfied. Till this day it still works great.
