Sony Handycam DCR VX2100

I've owned this particular model for two years and have put it through it's paces. To this day I am still amazed with it's picture quality. I have worked in film and TV for 35 years and for the past 15 years strictly broadcast TV. This camera will pass a side by side comparison with any of our professional 3 chip DVCPRO camera’s. As a matter of fact, I’ve shot many scenes with this camera and edited into other footage shot with our “pro” cameras and no one, not even our engineers, could tell which shot was with which cameras. The DCR VX2100’s low-light capability is astounding, being able to shoot acceptable video for quite a while after the sun sets. Even it’s consumer microphone records beautiful stereo sound. All around, Sony’s DCR VX2100 allows anyone to shoot on a shoe sting budget with professional results. I've yet to find anything I would change on the camera or make better.

I have owned the vx1000, vx2000 and now the vx2100. Seriously one of the best cameras I have personally ever owned or used. Low Light is amazing and so are the custom presets. Colors are nice and warm. All around excellent camera. Highly recommended!

Wonderful camera. Has everything I could think of on a camera for it's price, picture quality is great and low light ability great as well. The options for audio input allow a very crisp clear sound track since line level is an option. Controls are all in good places. I highly recommend the camera.

This camera meets my need for a top notch camera for my video production needs. Buying a camera slightly used saved me considerable money. The camera is in excellent condition.

I paid $1800 for a camera and never received it. I was scammed. I am still waiting for this situation to be resolved. I paid by pay pal with ebay credit card. I talked to the seller by phone and she said there was a mixup on her end and that she would take care of it. That was weeks ago and now she doesn't answer the phone or email. Bad person - good scammer.

what can i say, so far this camera has been working perfectly ! the color is perfect, the functions all work, and the seller who sold it to me was honest ! I have read the eBay reviews for this camera and most were good, a few horror stories, but nothing to deter me (a savvy eBay shopper) from asking the right questions and placing the right bid. This camera is amazing, the low light sensitivity is to die for. So far the camera has recorded about 6 hours, about 3 of those hours were in the night club, were is is always dark and gloomy, but this cam almost acts like night vision, things you couldnt even see with the naked eye, like a white cigarette box laying in a dark corner, was picked up by this camera, even on the low side of its low light adjustments ! Amazing, and it looks so professional. the steady shot could use some work from Sony, its still kinda bouncy if your walking around or if you dont have a steady hand. all in all, I love it, and I cant wait to shoot some more ! thanks

While I'm not a huge fan of Sony Electronics, I'm set on the DCR VX2100. A plethora of options for your digital film enhances every shot. The control layout allows you to switch from auto to manual seamlessly and the sound capture is superb!

This is a great camera with great picture and sound. Controls are easy to learn and use. It is rugged. I've been very happy with mine.

The low lighting is great on this camcorder, all of the control operating features are very well located,It feels good to me when hand helt, the picture quality is excellent. I would prefer a larger lcd screen the 2.5 inch doesn't give the detail that I would like doing wedding videos. I would also like a better microphone. I purchased the VX2100 because I think it is the best camcorder that can be purchased in it's price range. I love the flip lens cover. I have purchased many camcorders over the years and the VX2100 is simply the best I have ever owned or used, I highly recommend it.

I have been looking for a Sony model handycam for several months and fell in love with this model. The deal I got was far better than what I would have gotten from B&H camera in NYC.

The seller was more than generous in the extras that he included. I got a camera bag, waterproof camera cover, blank tapes, cables and a fully transferable warranty which he paid for. It is the most expensive item that I have ever bought on E-Bay, and the very best.

The tripod you sent is smaller than I expected it to be, but I probably just misread the description. It is decent quality.

I recently had to use this camera for a series of documentary styled short films. It handled very well. As simple as someone who is doing a run-and-gun shoot, but it will also give you alot of manual control of your footage as well.

I was really impressed with the response of the manual zoom and focus rings. We pulled of some pretty neat shots with it.

We have a new phrase in our small production group: "The Sony sees all". IT's true, the VX2100 is amazing in low light conditions compared to alot of other cameras that I have used.

The thing I don't like about the VX2100: No 'true' progressive shooting on any of the Sony camreras.

Buy this camera or the VX2000 - the PD150 or the PD170. All are great!!

I bought this Sony DCR-VX2100 because I'm a fanatic for NLE/digital video & use it as my ready-in-hand Vcam hobby-gear, leisure, & for possible projects as start-up & to do business with.
The VX2100 has a good excellent edge towards low-light shooting conditions & your final product output generates less noise on playback & previewing (in DVD resolution without software brightness filters applied)even in extremely dimly lit footages. Audio signal source recorded is also good & DV in recording is also just as well fine.
The only things I dislike are: it lacks much built-in ZOOMING power, its less 1080i maximum video recording resolution & the entire unit size! Well, I know someday sooner, the manufacturers gonna shrink it down-size & put more features into their respective unit models.
But the VX2100 is really a great product when you don't think about 1080i's.

i dislike not getting it and getting trash in the place of it.i thought using paypal was safe. im thinking of never buying with ebay again and less they help me get my money back. i want to see this person in jail because they did this to at least one person besides my self. no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no noway will i buy from them again

This is a great camera for taping almost anything but this item was returned by a previous buyer and me and was not as described, the camera was scratched and very used, ebay is not a good place to buy used electronic equipment, new stuff is fine and this was sold NEW IN THE BOX and wasnt even close.

This camera is very easy to use and gives you professional quality video with minimal effort. Excellent for low-light situations (ie. concerts, clubs). The manual is also very helpful and detailed.

I love the camera, never had any issues with it what so ever. Had chance to compare 2100 with the 2000 and found little differance in low light performance. 2000 rated at 2 lux and 2100 rated at 1 lux. If the 2000 is at 2 lux, then I would rate the 2100 at 1.9 lux! Both are excellent cameras and would be better off going after the 2000 model if money is kinda tight, about $500.00 to $1000.00 in differance. Both will use same lenes, batteries. ect. About only differance is the low light rating with everything else the same. What ever model you deside on, you will not be dissapointed!

Metal frame and excellent low-light performance. This is a rugged, event camera that is great for wedding and other event videographers. Not too suitable for shoulder mounting, even with a good third-party mount, due to it being nose-heavy. The manual controls are easily accessible. Its big brother - Sony PD-170 has XLR inputs and separate left/right channel audio volume controls.

Excellent camcorder. The VX2100 is considered the 'Queen' of low light video and the performance greatly exceeded my expectations.

It has superior responsiveness for the point and shoot user, but the pro user will love that the manual controls are where this camcorder shines. You are totally in charge of the look and feel of your video.

You will not be disappointed with the Sony VX2100. After hours of footage, I can tell you without hesitation that I would buy the camcorder again.
