Arguably one of the finest 3-chip cameras around even though it's more than 5 model years old. The picture quality of this camera will blow the doors off of any single chip camera. The Sony has many wonderful features like Super Steady Shot, an extra large flip-out screen and fantastic picture quality. Although it's big for a hand-held it's balanced nicely and when used on a tri-pod the top-access of the tapes is a god-send! Other nice features are (optional) manual control of exposure (perfect for shooting theatre), focus and sound (mike) level. The combination of the '900, Azden's ASGM-1 "shotgun" microphone, VZ-ROCK's Rocker Zoom and my Bogen tripod with fluid head make it a fantastic tool for shooting just about anything.
My one gripe with the camera is I could wish for finer adjustment of manual exposure. It appears to step in 1/2 F-stop increments which is regretably quite noticeable. They're fixable in post-production but...
Make sure the camera is not worn out though. Replacing worn-out heads is likely a $$$ proposition. Camera's that are being sold by their original owners and show well in pictures with little rubbing wear or scuffing are probably better bets. Look for cameras with cases too since that's often the sign of conscientious owner. Buying from pawn shops can be a bit iffy since they know little about the use or condition of the camera.
i love this camcorder! this is by far the best one i've ever used. the 3 chips give it stunningly clear quality. i got this one for like $720 and it is i perfect condition cosmetically and physically.
When my camera I bought off this guy came in it had gliched heads, and audio drop outs. The overall outside condition was good though. I got a great deal for it, but I ended up needing to get a 200 dollar repair. He did not tell me that it had that problem when i purchased the camera. So watch out.
Very good camcorder, very well maintained, high quality recording, many accessories, in very good shape, great features to play with, on recording and playback. I need a better camcorder than the average family camcorders, and this one was used but the previous owner keep this one in very good shape, and I got it with a lot of extras, so far I'm happy with this purchase.
He would only communicate by eBay mail, and only to buy time. He'd never give an actual shipping date or tracking code. He tried to steal my money (I'm awaiting PayPal coverage) and he's cost me rental fees while waiting.
I have owned one of these Sony DCR TRV-900 Camcorders before. It had a flaw in the lens so I sold it. Soon after I sold it, I realized that I missed it and all of its marvelous features. Once a week or so I would give the Ebay camcorder section a normal browse. Last month I discovered the one I ultimately won in auction. It was too much technology for the gent that put it up for auction. It was truly pristine, including a rather hard to come by pelican waterproof case and a plethora of batteries. I have already shot footage with it and am quite pleased with the results. Just another wonderful Ebay purchase...(I think that I must be up to 15.) Thanks - copyright1951.
I like this camcorder.when it is working, the video is great, at very low light, it still show the object color. the vx1000 need much more light than trv900.The most often seen problem on this camcorder is audio drop, cause from low back tension, post guide, dirty capstan motor shaft.the other problems are strange color, loss focus ,zoom etc, relate to two power filters.if you are buying this model, try to get some info about the upgrade parts (post guide, filters), if your unit is refurbished , you will be OK . you can check ebay's gold power seller refurbished electronics to pickup your refurbished dcr trv900
