I wanted a Digital Camcorder that is compatible with my antilog Hi8 tapes as well as providing excellent video performance on Hi8 tapes. I compared the documentation of Sony Handycam DCR TRV 460 and TRV 480 provided by Sony.com and did not see a major difference between the two. Although I was initially begun bidding on the TRV 480, I brought the Sony Handycam DCR TRV 460 because of its similar functions to the TRV 480. Also the eBay bidding price of the 460 was somewhat less than the 480.
I like the fact that I can record to both memory and tape, however I quickly discovery that recording to the memory stick does not provide high quality results.
I was very Impressed with theSony Camcorder I ordered. Also when I E-Mailed for information on this item, after I ordered it, the response was fast and my questions were answered to the point.. Would I buy from this dealer again ??? YOU BET!!!!!!!!
This was one of my first major purchase auctions on Ebay and I have mixed feelings. I feel that the camera had more use than what was advertised but it is working, although I would bid on a factory refurbished item next time. The seller did agree to expedite the shipping so I could get the product before Christmas. I sent additional Paypal funds to cover the UPS Bue charges. The actual shipment was delayed a day which was a dissapointment considering the additional charges but is was right before Christmas and I am sure the seller was as busy as I was.
This is a very good camcorder. Many people don't realize that this camcorder records in Digital Video (DV) - just like the new Mini-DV camcorders on sale in 2007. The only difference is that this records those DV files onto 8 mm tape - rather than the Mini-DV tapes. Once you export the files to your computer, there is zero difference between the files!
This camcorder is a little bigger than Mini-DV camcorders, but it is by no means big. It fits easily into one hand or into a coat pocket. As others have noted, this camcorder will both play older analog 8 mm tapes - converts them on-the-fly to DV format. It will also take analog input from VCR's or other analog cameras and export that input in DV format to your computer (again, converting the analog signal into DV format on-the-fly). I have been converting older VHS content and have seen essentially no deterioration in the image - although I am sure there would be some sort of deterioration if one were to convert very high quality VHS video.
All in all, this camera is effectively the equal of most modern camcorders at a fraction of the price. I had a mini-DV camcorder already (bought this one for the conversion ability) - now I find that I have two equally capable camcorders. On is just a little bit bigger than the other!
Great handycam for making family memories! you can also take digital photos as well! clear picture, awesome zoom. finger friendly spaced buttons. Night Vision, Highly recommend!
Absolutely the worst experience I had with any seller. After the seller tried to reverse the sale and I did not, he continued on by writing insulting e-mails. I would hope that ebay would be able to bar such a seller from it's site. I am less likely to buy items on ebay now. Also, until now I was unable to give the seller a review and if I could I would give the seller a big strike on his account.
I also purchased the trv-460 to convert many 8 mm family tapes to digital dvds. I have only tried filming once, but that experience was good. The seller was excellent, evn providing a balance of a service contract with BestBuy. Our transaction went very well, and I would certainly recommend him for future buys.
