I am a movie buff, like many of you. Having storage for all the movies (and or music cd's)can be a painstaking and monotonous task when your in for the evening for a good movie. Sony has fixed this problem with this really nice piece of equipment.
The DVP CX985V lacks the HDMI upgrading interface but provides more than adequit resolution for most home viewing. The Disc Explorer lacks the ability to read some disc titles automatically so you have to enter them via the ps/2 keyboard. However, if you do this as you stock the player it saves the information (and your favorite screen shot of the movie).
Overall for the price, (Purchased at Best Buy) I found this player to work flawlessly during playback and normal operation. You may have a few problems with VCD disc compatbility as I did, but for the money, this is an exceptional DVD player.
I rated this player "good" for one simple reason, Sony could have put a little more effort into the "load disc" capability so the user wouldnt have to name nearly all the discs in explorer manually.

I will make this review short and sweet. I buy things on ebay because you cannot find the items I have bought locally. I have enjoyed the bidding process but I particularly like the buy it now advantage. If the item is priced right then I just buy it now and avoid the hassle of waiting and missing the opportunity of purchasing that particular item. I have had good success by using pay pal and have had great success with the people I buy from. I look for any negative that they may have. I suppose if they are new to ebay I am a little leary. We all had to start somewhere but now that I have bought and sold relatively a lot I am careful to purchase from "Newbys". Buying on ebay allows me to purchase things that you cannot find anymore. Sooo.. Short and Sweet. It is a good place to buy and sell.

ok lets put this way. what r u looking for or what u like or hate. u have a supermarket here. so u get to pick. so i saw something i like. i bid and won. but what i most like about ebay as a collector is stuff i could'nt find or never saw before is shead into the light. so i'm happy to see and buy the thing i like to collect and most of all i find it here. so as to u ebay people i like ebay.

This is an outstanding Product. This item not only plays DVD movies, but also your fav. CD. Highly recommended. Takes a little time to get the movies and ids in place but is well worth the effort.

For a non hd-dvd player this machine rocks! it is full featured, yet simple to use. The biggest plus for me is the storage capacity of 400 dvd and/or cd's,. It really cleans up my media room and keeps all my discs where i want them

This could be a good product, but it is unfortunate that the seller (Whow I am going to contact and/or withdraw my good rating from) took a long time to ship and then the door was broke when I got it. I didn't using some glue to fix because I thought it may have happend while shipping. I didnt use it until 2 weeks later and that is when I pushed the power button in and it fell into the machine. I have also found a switch on the back for the channel that is broke. I may spend the money to have it fixed becuase it will really save me some Disc clutter if I can get it to work like I want. I was hoping it would display the disc name on the front, but I think I will have to program each name in individually. I would suggest this as a good purchase if you were to buy it new with a warranty. So far it seems as thought I have bought someone's beat up unit.

I REALLY LIKE MY 400 DISC DVD PLAYER. IT WAS A GREAT BUY AND AN EXCELLENT STORAGE UNIT. IF YOU HAVE MORE THAN 400 DVD'S LIKE I DO (I HAVE A BLOCKBUSTER IN MY HOUSE) THEN YOU NEED ONE OF THESE. IT IS WORTH THE MONEY.

I can put all my CD & DVD's in one place and have a complete listing to pick from. Also can sort a number of ways. Like jazz, or 60's or by proformer, etc. I can get hours of movies or music with a couple mins impt.

No better way to store your DVDs! It is like creating your own video on Demad system. Loading the DVDs and the DVD info is a little tedious and the limit of 16 characters for a title name is a little annoying, but the pros out weigh this! GET ONE!

I have been a movie buff for years, and never had one of these players. One of my friends gave me two of them from his store, and I decided to sell one and keep one. The one I have is absolutely amazing.
I have about a 1000 DVD collection, and I only watch about 300 of the movies (you know in my free time *cough cough*). While this player holds 400 discs, it has to be one of the most sophisticated things I have ever used. You just load up your DVD's, throw the boxes out (if your not a collector and have no use for them) and you have access to every DVD in the system with the touch of a remote control button.
This is a must have for movie buffs, I really wish I would have bought one sooner!

This is a great addition to a home theater system. You dont need to have 100s of discs on your book shelf. Just put them in the player and let them rip.

Fantastic device-Load it up with both CDs for music or DVDs for movies & the system plays all of them one after the other for days of great entertainment-Label the name of each disc through a keyboard & when they play you can have the selections played in sequences you choose not necessarily the in the sequence they are located in the machine. Great piece of equipment!
