For some reason, my husband likes to buy me Vonda Shepard CD s. Whether it s because we enjoy watching Ally McBeal, or whether it s because I feel most at home sitting behind a piano, I m not sure. The several Ally McBeal soundtracks I ve received leave me with just one question. If Ally and her co-workers are in their thirties, why does the soundtrack of their lives contain songs I listened to when I was growing up? I don t know why it took me so long to buy this cd. I love the Ally McBeal show and look forward to laughing every Monday night. The music is refreshingly bouncy, bluesy, or whatever the mood decrees and perfect for the show, whatever the scenario. Vonda Shepherd is the vibrant voice at the piano bar that the McBeal crew dance to every week. I d never seen her before, but started looking forward to hearing her sing just as much as I looked forward to the zany sitcom itself. I have only one gripe about this CD, and it's a big one to me. But first I will grudgingly acknowledge the reality of the situation: 1. Although she had had some successes previously, Vonda Shepard's career really soared after she was discovered by David Kelley and given a permanent role on Ally McBeal. 2. This CD was released at the height of the show's popularity, when the words "Ally McBeal" seemed to be on everyone's lips. 3. Probably only a minority of the show's viewers could tell you the name of the nightclub singer who appears near the end of each episode. Now for the gripe: The CD's..
