Funkman says that : this is an classic outtasight movie! Christopher Reeves was in his prime & Jane Seymour was groovatastic! (I ustta have a big crush on her)
The movie blows you away with a mix of Romance, science fiction & comedy. it will take you on an intergalactic trip!
If you want'ta make your weekend dynamite & outta sight, go & get this movie now!
We particularly like this movie as it features a fantasy that appeals to us; the thought of love traveling through time as if "it will not be stayed". The acting is outstanding. The characters were really brought to life by the superb acting. How many of us wouldn't want to engage in a "love fantasy" that was wholesome and rewarding? One of our favorite films.
I've watched this movie probably about 15 times! It's one you can watch over and over and not get tired of the storyline. Jane Seymour and Christopher Reeves along with Christopher Plummer do an outstanding job protraying their characters. The movie starts out with an elderly woman handing Reeves a timepiece and saying "Come back to me". At the time he has no idea who it's from. Later Reeves sees an old fashioned portrait at a turn of the century hotel and desires to go back in time to meet that woman (discovering it in fact was the elderly woman but at a younger time and age). He sets out to meet her in person and learn more about her but her manager (Plummer) doesn't want anyone near her so Reeves needs to get creative in crossing paths with Seymour. From start to finish this movie will keep you cativated!
This is one of the greatest love stories even though there is a bit of dejuvue in it. The music in the background it part of what makes this movie so wonderful.
The actors are great too. I sure do miss Christopher Reeves...I think just knowing he is gone now makes it even more special. He had such a future and it was just taken from him..that is life I guess.
This is a sweet romance. I especially value it because it was set, in part, in a time period I enjoy. Christopher Reeve has always appealed to me and I wanted to share this sensitive romance because Im in a loving romance now.
This is one of the most visually beautiful films. It is a story about a man who falls in love with a woman in a picture at a resort hote. He decides to travel back in time to meet her and falls in love with her. The hotel is on Macinack Island in Michigan. The flowers and the background is stunning. I guess one of the most poignant parts of the movie is that the character is played by Christopher Reeves. I would heartily recommend this as a great movie to watch again and again.
With Christopher Reeves, it's the story of a man in this generation falling madly in love with an actress of the past, who died years before. His yearning for her leads him back in time where he struggles to win her love. He succeeds in that, but forces protecting the actress prevent their marriage, and when he returns to the present, he's very happy he had the chance to meet her and have his affair. You can't help wishing this were possible, and imagining how it worked to actually go back in time to accomplish a goal, but this story is also well written, great lines, well acted and worth while for every romantic in the world. I read the book first, and loved it, and then sought out the movie so that it all came to life for me. There were few changes in the movie, but they did not detract from the story. To me, this is a great classic. Byron Y. Newman
This movie!...Everyone stopping what they are doing and forgetting the strife.
I know, I'm off the wall and all that, however...
If you have a heart and a sense of what a true love story is all about, then go ahead, buy this popular movie by the late and courageous Chris Reeve, and get to understand the magnificent story.
The music background takes you on a nostalgic trip back in time.
Two lovers separated by about sixty years finally catch up with each other. But the romance is short lived as most are, and ends abruptly when a Lincoln cent reveals what year it is.
Should time separate love?
No. When sixty years in time show how much was truly lost, you couldn't fault Christopher Reeve's character for wanting to go back.
Listen to that Theme by Paganini and see if YOU wouldn't want to go back.
Gentlemen, ladies and a little thing called civility were the norm.
Very good movie. Great acting from Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour early in their careers.
A young writer (Christopher Reeve) is mystified by the old portrait of a beautiful stage actress (Jane Seymour) from the turn of the century. He uses his mind through self-hynosis to turn back the years to the misty distant past, and find the woman who has him spellbound. Soon they are in love, and the time difference is only one of the problems to overcome. Scored by composer John Barry (of James Bond fame).
This movie is a romance, yet with the time travel and other aspects there is something for everyone. A nice romantic drama. I would have to say worth watching
This was a truly romantic movie that I thoroughly enjoyed. Jane Seymour and Christopher Reeve clearly showed their acting skills even this early in their careers. Although I think this is more of a woman's movie, I believe most romantic men will fall in love with Jane. I bought the movie to learn more about Jane Seymour's acting style, having just personally met her in May 2006. She's a true lady in every sense.

Pros: Interesting plot involving time travel and romantic love. Does it get any better?
Cons: Just enjoy it, don't try to figure out the time travel part.
I received the DVD movie Somewhere in Time (Collector s Edition) as a Christmas gift. I ve enjoyed this movie since it was first released in 1980 and have watched it several times over the years. There are a couple of little things about it I didn't like, but overall it is a wonderful and romantic film. I thoroughly enjoy the story's plot. In the first scene, an elderly woman approaches a handsome young man in the midst of a large group, gives him a gold watch and asks him to come back to her. Cryptic words indeed. She turns and leaves. He is astounded. Who is this elderly lady and did she...

Pros: The story was unique and original..beautiful production and location
Cons: None that I can think of
I can t believe I just watched Somewhere In Time again It s just one of those movies I can t resist when I find it playing on any of my movie channels There s just something about it that fascinates and haunts me, the story of a man who sacrificed life in the present to find love in the past . This is a quote I read and noted down that had been included in the DVD I use it because it describes the movie to a T. It all begins when Richard Collier, (Christopher Reeve), a successful writer in Chicago, celebrating the successful run of his new play, receives a strange visit from a lovely older...

Pros: Seymour and Reeve; Plummer and rest of cast; beautiful cinematography; hauntingly lovely score
Cons: Time travel elements may strain your credulity
Somewhere in Time is an enchantingly romantic movie involving time travel. Re-watching it recently for the first time in many years, I did a little time traveling of my own, back to the early 1980s when I first saw this lovely film starring Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour. I have an odd sense of connection to this movie because, for quite some time, my family was...ah...obsessed with it might be the best way to describe it. I'm the youngest of four siblings, and before and since our family's love affair with this film, it has been rare indeed for all of us to wholeheartedly like the same...

Pros: Amazingly beautiful love story.
Cons: Nothing at all.
Recently my son, Flamepillar, did a review on the movie "Frequency" which deals with time-travel. At that time I suggested that he check out "Somewhere In Time". Although it is a romance, the concept of time-travel is integral to the story. Released 23 years ago in 1980, this film continues to this day to captivate and attract new fans. It was filmed in both Chicago and on Mackinac Island, Michigan. Mackinac Island is a unique island, in that even today automobiles are not allowed. All transportation is by either horse and buggy or by bicycle. The Grand Hotel, where most of the story takes...

Pros: A brilliant, brilliant film.
Cons: None
And so my 80's themed reviews bring me to one of the 80's true crown jewels- "Somewhere in Time", starring Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour, directed by Jeannot Szwarc and released in 1980- based on the novel by Richard Matheson. The fantasy romance film "Somewhere in Time" is not a film that rings many bells for most people today, but most people who do have nothing but praise for it as a high quality film, as a piece of art, as an inspiration for them to get involved in film-making. I had never seen the film but I had heard quite a few 80's fanatics talk about how they loved this film....
