Todd Rundgren's Something/Anything?--A Little Bit Of Everything!!!

Pros:
The magnificent talents of Todd Rundgren; the entire concept of the album
Cons:
You kiddin' me?
Todd Rundgren is unquestionably one of the most gifted musicians to come down the pike in the past thirty or so years. Not only is he a great vocalist and songwriter, he can literally play any instrument that he picks up. Throw in his considerable production skills (over the years he has produced albums for more musicians than I care to mention), and you can see why he's fully capable of making an album, or part of one, by himself. His 1972 release, Something/Anything? is a fine example of his skills. I owned this album on wax many moons ago and I seem to remember that it was a double album...

Pros:
The kid demonstrates he is master of the studio and any musical style he fancies.
Cons:
Several moments of over-indulgence, although this adds to the album's quirky charm.
Track-by-track assessment:- I SAW THE LIGHT (10/10) Upbeat and uplifting. I like the drums on this one. Todd's backing vocals are good too. IT WOULDN'T HAVE MADE ANY DIFFERENCE (10/10) Magic, touching ballad. Great vocals, keyboards and percussion. WOLFMAN JACK (8/10) Todd does his one-man Jackson 5 impression. COLD MORNING LIGHT (10/10) Another great atmospheric ballad. I like the high note he hits at the end. IT TAKES TWO TO TANGO (THIS IS FOR THE GIRLS) (9/10) Almost as catchy as I Saw The Light. SWEETER MEMORIES (8/10) Nice guitar and organ. Soulful singing. INTRO (5/10) Todd..
