This is not one of the best CD's I have heard. Their stuff later was better. It is a good CD but the best. They have done better. This does help complete my collection.

CD to have in your collection!
Review created: 08/09/07

This is a great CD. Every Def Leppard fan should have this in their collection. It's not what you'd expect to hear from them, it's certainly different. It's more hard rock than the "Pour some sugar on me" days... you will be impressed.

  Not one of their best

I usually like all of Def Leppard's music. But this one had a lot more of the heavy metal edge. This is great but in my opinion not typical of what they have put out in the past so I was a little surprised how different it was from their other albums. It has a couple of their ballady songs (more within the better known D.L. style) with well written lyrics, "Breathe A Sigh" being the best on this release. All in all it's Def Leppard so how could it be bad?

Discover Leppard's lost bastard-child album, Slang

Pros:
A truly different Leppard sound for the first time since their debut.

Cons:
This is the only album where this new sound is explored.

Most casual fans of 80's music and Def Leppard honestly have no idea this peice of work even exists. In the mid 90's, floundering 80's bands were trying to compete with grunge, and, except for Bon Jovi, failing misreably. Leppard had the potential to succeed on the level Bon Jovi did, being the only band of the 80's that outsold them, and arguably, with just as good of a sense of songcraft. Sadly, with the VERY different sound of 'Slang', Leppard saw nothing but poor sales and half-sold ampitheatres. Guess what? This album is good. At times, VERY good. You just have to go into this album...

  It all sounds so new

Pros:
A new direction, superior lyrics and vocals.

Cons:
Not too much, frankly.

A greatest hits collection in 1995 ("Vault") helped Def Leppard buy more time before releasing their slightly less-anticipated seventh studio album. The onslaught of grunge music had seen stadium rock acts such as Def Leppard, Whitesnake and Motley Crue lose a lot of their popularity. Although hit singles were still being attained, many of them were ballads - always the easy option for a band struggling to convince a sceptical public. So it was all change for 1996's "Slang". On production duties this time was Pete Woodroffe rather than career-producer, Mutt Lange. Joe had straightened his...

The Most Hated Def Leppard Album
Review created: 10/22/00
by: anecdoter -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Good Lyrics (for the most part), some good rock songs

Cons:
Some forgettable songs

Shunned and vanquished to the forgotten pages of their relatively large catalog, Def Leppard's Slang is probably their least known and respected album. While good bands can put out bad music - sometimes lots of it - in this case, all this disgust and dislike is very needless. Slang is Def's experimental album; after a four hiatus from album making, they went back into the album to give their music some more depth - one can hardly argue that Def Leppard is considered an intensely intellectual band. The finished product is Def Leppard's most thought provoking album. Joe Elliot and company...
