WHo doesn't like the Dead? GREAT CD. I bought it because all of my other copies have been stolen. It plays great, has no scratches or skips at all. Some of there best songs areon this LP, and I think that everyone should own a copy of this Cd to have in their collection.
I like this collection of hits. Not a very large cross-section of the Dead's material, but a nice introduction to the unDead... Nice tracks like Uncle John, Truckin' and Casey Jones that are familiar, as well as other less-known material. I recommend this as an intro for the non-Dead. Uncurable Deadheads will find this too cursory a collection.
I was never a huge Dead fan until I bought this album. Like many people venturing into a new vein of music, I felt it best to start with the band's Greatest Hits collection. And what a door (or closet) this opened!
For anyone new to the Grateful Dead, be sure to get this must-have album.
Alas, Jerry Garcia is long gone - although he lives on as a Ben & Jerrys ice cream. But anyway - this 1998 album is what they were about. My obvious favorite is "Uncle John's Band". Tracks include:
1. Golden Road, The 2. Truckin' 3. Rosemary 4. Sugar Magnolia 5. St. Stephen 6. Uncle John's Band 7. Casey Jones 8. Mexicali Blues 9. Turn On Your Lovelight 10. One More Saturday Night 11. Friend Of The Devil

Pros: Some good, classic tracks...
Cons: Not fluid or cohesive or complete...
I can sense the shock and awe in your eyes Lambchops--a deadhead? Nothing of course could be further from the truth which is the precise reason I am examining the extremely brief greatest hits collection Skeletons From The Closet: The Best of The Grateful Dead and not say something more fan friendly or less mainstream. First an admission. I ve already said I am not by any means a fan of The Grateful Dead. What I am however is a fan of rock music of all kinds including the brand of free-wielding, psychedelic, jam band, country-rock that the band perfected beginning in the mid-1960 s until...

Pros: A bunch of great cuts.
Cons: Rather short, one or two undesirable tracks.
Skeletons from the Closet is a Best Of, compiled in 1974. While not a definitive collection, it offers a small sample of the best known Grateful Dead tunes. You ll find such well-known tracks as Truckin and Casey Jones. Also included are classics such as St. Stephen, Sugar Magnolia and Uncle John s Band. Here s the track listing: 1. The Golden Road (To Unlimited Devotion) 2. Truckin 3. Rosemary 4. Sugar Magnolia 5. St. Stephen 6. Uncle John s Band 7. Casey Jones 8. Mexicali Blues 9. Turn on Your Love Light 10. One More Saturday Night 11. Friend of the Devil Here's what the tracks were...

"Skeletons" is the bones of the dead

Pros: Classic Dead with a few other not so classic treats
Cons: My first dead album, how can I have a "con?"
"Skeletons" was my first Dead album - bought it when I was 14 because I couldn't get enough of "Sugar Magnolia!" Well, that was 20 years ago, and this album spun me into the world of the Dead which I feel "grateful" enough to have experienced. For the newcomer Dead fan, I always recommend this album as a first step. Most folks will recognize "Truckin", "Sugar Mags", "Uncle John's Band", "Casey Jones", "Friend of the Devil" and "One More Saturday Night" putting the listener at a cool comfort level able to soak in the rest of the album. "The Golden Road" is a trippy Dead song - kicks the album.
