RUSH - Signals is a great album. I have listened to it for over 20 years and never get tired of it. The lyrics are slightly different in styling as well as the music. The RUSH - Signals album has a different, but great new spin on the music. The lyrics, (written by Neil Peart, drummer) are very much like ballads. This is by no means uncommon with RUSH. RUSH has performed countless songs where the lyrics were like listening to little stories of someone elses life. Or where ever Neils imagination took him the day he wrote the song. The topics vary with every song, meaning they didn't stick to writing lyrics about the same old dull and drab things. The lyrics to RUSHs music has always had variety and range. Geddy Lee introduces alot more of his keyboard talents on this album than he did in previous albums. He still tears up a mighty mean bass guitar too. Alex Lifeson continues to be amongst the most under-rated guitar players in our day. He does great work in the album as well. As for Neil Peart. What can you say about a man who sounds like he has 6 arms to play drums with. Neil has NEVER missed a beat. I will be a Neil Peart fan beyind my living days. This album is a great album that is sure to please. I would recommend kickin back with a cold one and just lettin this CD ride out. It's a great way to enjoy it.
I was looking for a Remastered copy of this CD in town but couldn't find it anywhere. But now I bought on Ebay and have added it to my MP3 player and love it. Thanks

Rush -- Signals (1982)

Pros: Hugely diverse.
Cons: Incoherent.
After the now widely acclaimed Moving Pictures, Rush took a turn for the modern with 1982's Signals. Within this album lied the beginning of a more regular use of the synthesizers, which would soon become a common instrument in Rush's big attack. The musical climate was changing, and so were they. Out of all the Rush albums I've heard, this one has taken the longest to grow on me. Even Moving Pictures was not this difficult. I think it may be because of the transitionary phase between "the old" and "the new" that was occurring around the time of this recording. Even Rush themselves seem to...

Flashy, intelligent, precise...and yawn-inducing

Pros: "Subdivisions" is a great song, the playing is impressive. Smart rock that sounds clean.
Cons: Trying way too hard to sound intellectual. Songs about science and space shuttles? Please.
I cannot believe what happened. I wrote a review of this album, and then the computer crashed and all was lost. Technology is such a bane to human existence. Let's go back to donkeys and sundials. Rush. Please don't hate me for criticizing them. I've owned most of their albums at one time or another, and I'll probably never part with "Hemispheres" or "2112". I've never worshiped them as divinities, but I'll be the first to describe them as talented and smart. And Canadian. However... "Signals" is where they started to go wrong for me. The production is very New Wave, but that's not the...

It's a New World Rush

Pros: More catchy and powerful tunes with an 80's flare...
Cons: Heavy use of synth's overpowered Alex's guitar work in some cases.
Note: This review is part of a re-writing process I'm going through on my earlier Rush entries. Some of them clearly needed a little more polish so I felt obligated to do so. Rather than delete the original and re-submit a new review, I felt it best to simply modify the original and add a notification of the updated review in PTiemann's Notification System. Thanks for reading... ... On the heals of their wildly successful Exit...Stage Left double-live album which captured the magic of their Moving Pictures album, Rush set the stage for Phase III of their career. And unlike other artists that..

Not what anyone expected

Pros: Solid album from Rush; one of the best album covers ever.
Cons: That "Countdown" song drives me up the wall.
So, Rush made it bit with Moving Pictures so the smart thing to do would have been to follow that one up an album featuring similar styles, right? Well, whether that's right or wrong, Rush didn't just replicate a successful formula and record a "sequal" when the band made Signals. This album is considerably different from Moving Pictures, but that should surprise no one -- Rush never has been too good at sitting still and relying on tried and true formulas when making albums. So, Signals is a heck of a lot different from Moving Pictures in a lot of ways. While I don't think this one tops...

Pros: Subdivisions, The Analog Kid, Digital Man, The Weapon
Cons: The song Countdown never really takes off!
This is one of my favorite Rush albums! I'm a HUGE Rush fan..I have been ever since I got A Farewell To Kings for Christmas back in 1977( I was only ten years old). Looking back at all my reviews for Epinions, I realize I have only written reviews on my two least favorite albums of theirs, Power Windows and Vapor Trails. It is time for MATZABALLMAN to change that! Signals is not as exciting as some of their earlier albums like Fly By Night and Hemispheres and there are no real LONG SONGS here, like The Camera Eye or La Villa Strangiato. I remember my brother John and I being a little...
