Show Boat is the first actual Broadway Musical. Most of the songs were taken from popular Vaudeville acts when the show was created. What is rather surprising is that this show dealt with issues that are still considered somewhat controversial. When one considers that this show originally opened in 1923. The story is about a theater on a large ferry called the Cotton Blossom that travels the Mississippi river. A gambler, Gaylord Ravenal, is drawn to the Cotton Blossom and there meets the captain s beautiful daughter, Magnolia. Ravenal has been charged with murder, though he killed in self...
