one of the few artists who sound as dynamic on stage as they do on a studio produced album. and with pat metheny, jaco pastorius, and randy becker as the back up, very very hard to lose.
First, I have never been particularly fond of Joni Mitchell. That's not to say that I don't appreciate her talent. I bought this recording because of the musicians, but it's very obvious that the interpretations they present really marry with her style in a way I'd never heard. If your curious about Joni Mitchell, but her studio work didn't really work for you, this ia a good choice. If nothing else, this an outstanding example of some great musicians at or near their peak.
This recording captures one of the most remarkable collections of contemporary musicians on stage at one time. While many missed this tour in 1979, this recording and the available DVD offer a glimpse into this remarkable ensemble. If you or someone you know loves Jazz, Folk, Blues, or Rock, and admires, Mays, Brecker, Jaco, Alias, Metheny, or the incomparable Joni Mitchell, this is an experience not to be missed.
He loved it! No dislikes. He has always wanted this cd. He loves Joni Mitchell. Unfortunately, he love it so much, he ordered it too. So we have 2 of them.

Once somebody asked Les Paul (see note) who, to his opinion, was the best guitarist on the scene (a rather stupid question) and he answered: "The best guitarist is the guy sitting on his porch steps playing for his friends." And as far as I'm concerned, that's the Holy Truth. Joni Mitchell's "Shadows and Light" happens to be a live album. And a very...

Shadows And Light - Joni Mitchell

Pros: One of the most musical, soulful albums around.
Cons: Err...Album too short perhaps?? I can't think of anything else!
I didn't really discover Joni Mitchell's music until recently, and I'm slowly building my Joni collection. Shadows And Light is my newest addition. This album was recorded live in 1979, and after a somewhat interesting introdution the first thing that hits you is the rightfully bass-heavy mix and incredible groove of In France They Kiss On Main Street. The late Jaco Pastorius plays his fretless Jazz Bass so percussively that even if the drums weren't there this track would still have awesome rhythm. The next track, Edith And The Kingpin, quite simply is one of the most spacious, soulful,...
