Robert Duvall can't seem to shake loose from his steriotypical, scruffy character parts that continues from his magnificent role as Augustus McCrae in "Lonesome Dove". But, hey, go with what works, and this wonderful movie is worth watching.
It twists and turns, with event upon event...conjurs up images of a time when devil-may-care attitudes ruled the day.

My husband and I saw this movie on TV the first time and thought it was hilarious!!! I wanted to get a VHS tape of it while I could, so as to watch it again. I found some on Ebay and bid until I won one. I also won a DVD for a friend. This film is great! It has something for everyone. It is a good teaching tool for those coming of age, and for those who are older. It has adventure, and meanings so deep that it requires watching it again and again to understand it fully! One can pick up something new each time it is watched. If you want to thoroughly enjoy a movie, and you like to laugh, this movie is for you!! I've watched it twice now--once on TV, and the VHS tape I won. I'm looking forward to watching it again in the near future. Every time I watch it, I pick up something that I missed while laughing the previous time. Watch it closely, or you will miss something! It is great family entertainment!!

Secondhand LionsI love this movie and have watched it several times since I purchased it. Most people that see it think that it is some kind of macho guy movie, but it is at least a 2 hanky flick. Who can beat Duvall and Caine in anything, and expecially as 2 crotchity old secondhand lions trying to raise a young man. It is fairly easy on the young kids ears, w/o much language, some violence not particularily violent, and the humor is great. It didn't receive enough notices when it was made as far as I am concerned.

I try to catch movies while they're in the theater as much as possible, but once in awhile a great one slips by me. Luckily I did finally catch this one on DVD. Man I wish I had seen it on the big screen. This is one of those stories where old-meets-young and they both learn something. Not a new premise at all, but done ever so much better here. I first saw a preview for Secondhand Lions a few months ago when I went to see a movie. I thought it looked like it would be good and I decided that I wanted to see it. I was finally able to go see it. I did enjoy the movie. I was also happy to be able to see the trailed for The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King before the movie. Walter was a young teenage boy who was taken to stay with his two great uncles, Garth and Hub, by his mother Mae in the 1960's. Walter didn t want to stay with them, but Mae told him how the two hadn t been back in Texas for long and how they were supposed to.

I absolutely adored Secondhand Lions. I laughed. I teared up just a bit (though not much). And, the movie was creative and campy enough to be interesting but not annoying. By the time the film was over, I felt like I had been royally entertained. The show opens with Mae dumping her pre-teen son on the steps of her great uncle s farm in Texas. She says she is off to college, but she is chasing men (again). Plus, she s heard that the old uncles are filthy rich, and she thinks that Walter may locate the loot. With Haley Joel Osment's awkward transition into puberty, his latest feature Secondhand Lions had the potential to make or break his career. In my eyes, it really didn't do either of the two - it just kind of "was". Even those who live vicariously through the achievements of their Hollywood idols probably would still hesitate to place any bets on Osment's future based on what they saw here. Thankfully, Secondhand Lions is an engrossing enough experience that you won't be thinking about all that throughout the movie. Maybe just in a few spots. Osment plays the role of 12-year old Walter, a kid.

Secondhand Lions had all the intent of being a "coming of age" story for a young boy named Walter. Walter has been dragged around by his mother, often ending up leaving him someplace while she goes off to search for a man. He has grown tired of the same routine, often catching his mother in lies about what she claims to be doing. In the latest occurrence, she has decided to leave Walter with two Great Uncles presumably to go attend classes at a school.
