The Beatles' Second Album--A Study In Influences

Pros:
Vintage music by The Beatles, interesting cover tunes

Cons:
An American issue, lacks the structure of the fourteen British titles

Second Album by The Beatles is somewhat of a misnomer--the Capitol-EMI record conglomerate released both British and American versions of some of the earliest albums by The Beatles, simply to make more money. As a result, we have albums like Second Album, Yesterday And Today, and Hey Jude, which were released in America and which presented blends of the contemporaneous British releases, along with singles that didn't appear on the British albums. Pros:
Outstanding covers of R&B hits; the early Beatles sound

Cons:
Only five Lennon-McCartney songs

Pros:
A great original and a couple good covers.

Cons:
Not much variety and only 5 original Beatles tracks.

The Beatles satisfied their rabid fans by quickly releasing their second album in the same year. This may not have been a very good decision. THE BEATLES' SECOND ALBUM had plenty of commercial success and has a Beatles classic, but it was no more than a decent collection of originals and covers that doesn't live up to their first album. The album starts off with one of six covers, John Lennon's version of Chuck Berry's "Roll Over..
