An interesting and lively study of life in the '50s on a college
campus and how one young guy deals with prejudice. Everyone on campus
likes and admires David Greene(Brendan Fraser) until it's revealed that
he is a Jew, which was unheard of at the time. Film provides a real sense of
the period and features early apperarances by Chris O'Donnell, Matt Damon,Ben
Affleck among others.

See Affleck and Damon at their Greenest in School Ties

Pros:
Great cast, great story, fantastic performances

Cons:
depressing

School Ties (1992) is really a pretty fantastic movie that helped begin the careers of several young actors. Ironically, Brendan Fraser stars in the leading role as David Greene, a Jewish teen from Pennsylvania who gets a scholarship to a pre-Ivy league high school so that he can play quarterback for their football team. Matt Damon comes second, as he stars as Charlie Dillon, a jealous rich brat who tries to have David expelled from school. Ben Affleck has a constant role in the film, yet with very few lines. He is a just another student at the school. My, how things have changes for the...

School Ties shoes anti-semitism in higher education

Pros:
Good story

Cons:
Negative topic

This movie stars Brendan Fraser as a Jewish student in a anti-semetic 1950 prep school for gifted students. It is an all boys school, starring Matt Damon, Ben affleck and Chris o'Donnell. He hides the fact that he is Jewish from his peers because he is poor and doesn't want to lose an opportunity to go to this school on scholarship, and his buddies always make Jewish jokes that are full of hatred and anger. This movie is awful in the cruelness, especially when the other kids find out, but it sends a message that there is no place for hatred and ignorance in society. You feel the sadness of...

Pros:
Great story-line, good actors

Cons:
Will make you emotional

I have been an adoring fan of Brendan Fraser since his first appearance in the film, "Dogfight." I enjoyed every bit of his performance in the 1992 movie "School Ties." I love this movie so much that I've watched it over 20 times. In School Ties, Fraser's role is the Jewish football star named David Green. David Green is the son of a coal miner who later learns the hard lessons of life when he is given the opportunity to attend a very well-established parochial high school. This movie educates us about the prejudices of the ignorant. Greene was trying to concealed his Jewish heritage but it...

  Powerful and to the Point

Pros:
Was very realistic and showed how people can become bigots in a second.

Cons:
Very sad movie

I'll just start off by saying that Brendan Fraser is my favorite actor. Not only is he good looking, but when he plays a role, he makes it seem real. That's especially the case in School Ties. Now, almost everyone starts off their epinions on movies with things like "I though this movie would be boring by the cover" or "if someone hadn't of recommended this, I never would have watched this". That is the case for me, but I'm glad I did decide to get. it. The movie is set in the late 1950's. David Greene (Fraser) has been accepted to an elite school where almost all of the graduates move on to..
