If you ask me to name one of my ten top movies of all time, this movie is the first one that comes to mind. I just absolutely love it! Who wouldn't? The film is so full of memorable scenes that you just cant forget. Of course there's the famous scene where Lloyd holds up the boom box playing Peter Gabriel's "In your Eyes" just outside Diane's window. There are also lots of other moments too. One of my favorites is the one in the diner where Diane tells Lloyd that she just wants to be friends. Lloyd replies that they can just be friends - friends with potential. I can't forget that line, it was so witty, you just got to fall in love with Lloyd Dobler!

That's what's great about this film. It has one of the best written characters that I've seen - wonderfully portrayed by John Cusack. Lloyd Dobler is this ordinary young guy, who doesn't think much of his future, but knows what he wants in life - to be with Diane Court. He manages to do that in the course of the film and does it quite well. His sincere affection for Diane is the one that makes her fall in love with him and as well as make you fall in love with him as well.

This movie has a lot of quotable quotes which is too many to mention ( you might want to click on the additional information for the DVD on this page as some quotes get mentioned here). If you are a true fan, you'll definitely want to own the DVD copy. Aside from deleted scenes, the DVD also includes a commentary by John Cusack, Ione Skye and Cameron Crowe with lots of trivia!

One of the best films ever. Thank you Cameron Crowe, for making this one!

  I love this movie!

AH, romance! Falling in love with what seems an untouchable...The soundtrack is amazing as well! I have both the movie and soundtrack. My mind will never forget the scene with the boombox, serenading with peter gabriel, 'In your eyes, they light the heat, in your eyes, I am complete, In your eyes, I see the doorway to a thousand churches. (The words are right, for the most part). And if you want to hear more, buy the song or the movie! Or both, because they are worth it!

I have always loved this movie! I saw it with my husband when it first came out... what an amazing "study" of teenage life - from love to peer pressure, to acceptance, to forgiveness, to making the best of any situation! This is a great movie for anyone looking for a great love story that includes a little heart break too! A great first for Cameron (Writer/Director)... a true must see!

I was so happy to find it on - where else? eBay! AND, for a terrific price too! This isn't the easiest flick to find on store shelves... so happy to FINALLY have it in my collection!

A Great Movie- and a great price

Let's face it- most of us above the age of 25 have VHS tapes of movies that we love that, well, would sure look better on DVD. And this is one of those movies that is great for any DVD collection. What better way to find it than on eBay! This is a funny and romantic tale with some great 80's music (Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes" being blasted out of a boom box being held above John Kusak's head-- a classic moment). DVD's are priced at a point where it almost makes more sense to buy rather than rent in many cases, especially 'library titles' and I would recommend using eBay for that purpose.

I bought the DVD because I really like this movie. The cheapest way to buy any DVD is on ebay. I have had great success because I always purchase never been used DVDs through ebay and they are no different than the ones offered through your local video store.

I have always loved this movie and wish I had it. The sell never sent it and it is currently in PayPal Claims. I should get my money back in a few days. As far as the movie, I will get it somewhere, but the seller will be avoided!

  Best movie ever

A personal fav. Cameron Crowe's best movie, his most human and well-made film. Great screenplay, not perfect, but really driven by real and multi-dimensional lead characters. Cusack is awesome. John Mahoney is able to overcame the flaws in his character to deliver a masterful performance. And the message about love totally rocks! Nothing better than the scene of Cusack holding up the boombox or the breakup scene where he slows down in his Malibu and then parks the car, takes the key out, and says "Wait, what did we just decide?" to offer real slices of life. "I'm looking for a dare to be great situation" has got to be one of the all time best movie lines. No "English tips" here, just a great movie!

  Say Classic

Pros:
sweet comedic fluff that explores relationships, with classic dialogue and a great boombox moment

Cons:
takes patience not to chuck in the first ten minutes

I finally got around to watching this Cameron Crowe classic from 1989. Something about the film's iconic marquee - with John Cusack hoisting that boombox over his head while wearing a long coat, baggie sweats and high toppers - just struck me wrong. I didn't know it was a marketing attempt to refer back to the movie's most memorable scene - as if flagging down as a rescue chopper. It just looked like cynical marketing goofiness. So I blew it off. Then I got snagged by Almost Famous, Jerry Maguire and Vanilla Sky. I had to come back and see the Cameron Crowe "classic" everyone was talking...

  Say Anything

Pros:
Great cast, lots of fun scenes

Cons:
None

Say Anything is one of the quintessential teen romantic comedies of the late 1980's. Somehow, I never got to see it until recently. I had always associated it with the last few John Hughes movies that weren't all that good, but little did I know that this marked the great Cameron Crowe s directorial debut. John Cusack stars in one of his most memorable and defining roles as Lloyd Dobler. It is still the role that many people use as a basis for calling him a romantic leading man. Dobler is a very smart and driven young man who just graduated from high school and doesn't know what to do with...

Say Anything... unless your name is Ione Skye
Review created: 05/18/08

Pros:
Reality, John Cusack.

Cons:
Last third, Ione Skye.

Cameron Crowe's catalogue proves that he has a fascination with what the AV Club's Nathan Rabin terms "Manic Pixie Dream Girls." In Vanilla Sky, we have Penelope Cruz's Sophia. Or Kate Hudson in Almost Famous. Kirsten Dunst in Elizabethtown. Here, in Say Anything..., there is Ione Skye's Diane Court. But there's a big problem: Why the hell would Lloyd Dobler (John Cusack) go after Diane Court? Manic Pixie Dream Girls are vivacious, exciting, sure to drive life into any man dying on the inside. Diane Court is not that woman. She's a "brain," class valedictorian, recipient of some prestigious...

Cameron Crowe s Sweet Fountain of Youth, Say Anything
Review created: 02/15/01
by: Lagavulin -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Heart-warming and thoughtful character study, beautifully performed by John Cusack, Ione Skye, and John Mahoney.

Cons:
Frazier s Dad singing Ricky Don t Lose that Number may cause your cat to hide.

Twenty-two summers ago, in the days following high school graduation, I was so alive. I had a busy network of friends and acquaintances. That summer, we jam-packed some wild parties, which burned on all night. God, I loved a girl that summer, and no one understood how intense, intoxicating, and heart breaking our romance was. Never were my parents such sorry hypocritical failures in my eyes, as they were that summer. Above all, that summer I knew that it was time for me to move on, to start seeking my place in the world. Now, I can look back and see that, despite the hormonal dementia, I was..

  80's at its BEST!
Review created: 03/16/00
by: kmhinman -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Classic story, John Cusack

Cons:
some may not like 80's cheese

I loved the 80's. I loved the music, movies, politics, power, and even some of the clothes. OK, there were times where we wore too much pastel, but hey. Pastels aren't all that bad. In junior high and high school, I dreamed of being Madonna. I longed to have a "Hair Band" boyfriend. I am so excited to see that our decade has become a novelty for some so there are special 80's nights on radios and in clubs. So what does all this have to do with "Say Anything?" "Say Anything" is 80's movies at it's best. For the few who haven't seen this movie, I'll give you a quick plot Lloyd (John Cusack) is..
