Samsung SGH X497 (AT&T)

This is a great phone. I have no negative things to say about it. I was using a razr before and that was so annoying it only looks cool. This phone is very functional and is definately a better choice as far as functionality goes.

My son's phone was not working the way it should. I was looking for him a phone that would be easy to use, user friendly but not loaded with extra that he would not need. He also needed a phone with a stationary antenna that would be sturdy while he was working on our farm. The price was one of my concerns because he could easily lose it or damage it while working with the animals and I didn't want expense to be a problem. He loves the phone and has no complaints.

I keep losing my phone, but I keep coming back to the Samsung SGH X497. I want a simple communications tool, and this is the best. The electronics are better than anything else I've ever used - by which I mean the receiver has better discrimination and sensitivity, and the transmitter puts out a clearer signal than EVERY other cell phone I've tried. I suspect when you begin adding things like a camera, and things that make your phone more of a palm top device, you have to compromise on the transceiver, and this phone seems to be proof of that supposition. If you want to be able to communicate from more places, and farther from the tower, this is your phone. If you want pictures, text, big screen for the internet, etc., and you NEVER travel out of good cell coverage, this is probably not your phone.

The seller was not willing to accept a refund and also, the phone is pure crap even if it came with a working battery. I was looking to replace this same phone with this one i bought. BAD CHOICE! This is old anyways. I would only get AT&T for the iPhone. That's it.

Excellent no frills cellular phone w/ very good vibration alert option. I did not want a camera phone (which tends to exhaust battery life).....I can go up to 4 days without recharging this phone. Samsung SGH X497 is a great phone for a great price!

This is one of best phone that Samsung has ever offered.Other phones I've owned do not have this simple menu which you to move to features easily. Overall, I'd recommend the phone.

This is the fifth one of these phones that I've gotten for my teenage son. They are like a little brick that can send and receive text messages. If they could swim we would probably still have the first one that we got three years ago. I bought this one as a back-up for the one he's currently using because I know that this one will eventually get wet as well.

If you are looking for a flip phone that is durable, functional, and small enough to fit in a pocket this is a great buy. It doesn't have all of the bells and whistles that are common with newer phones like a camera, but if you have a texter in your family this is an excellent option. If you have a kid who breaks phones often or if you work outdoors you should give this little phone a try.

One other good thing about this phone is that it is a very simple design. I've been able to mix and match parts from different phones to keep at least two running at all times. I am not an electronic whiz so if I can do it many of you can as well. Used ones come up on eBay all of the time so if you keep your eyes open you can find them at very affordable prices.

The only reason that I wouldn't call this an excellent phone is that it is an older model.

A durable phone and a great value. The SGH X497 is the perfect cell phone for those who don't want to pay extra for the frills that they may not use, such as a camara phone.

I bought this cell phone because my cell phone had recently quit working. My cell phone carrier (At&t/Cingular) would not replace my phone because I had had it for too long. So I needed to buy another one that was not 100 dollars or more. This phone was recommended to me by a friend, so I searched for it and found it on here. I was able to buy it easily and cheaply. I also received it quickly, and it worked great just as described. These phones are great for people who just want a cheap phone, as well as people that HAVE to have a flip phone (which is me).

Very poor, phone only worked for about one month, this is the shorts time of any phone i have purchaced. This was not a new phone but should work for more time that this.

Bought several of these phones since my co-worker is very hard on them. So far they have given excellent service and really taken a beating. Since they meet the physical demands and can be bought at a reasonable price I probably will purchase more of these in the future.

I really like the Samsung x497 and I had mine for 3 years, then I gave it to my mom whom finally got a cell phone. It passed the Wal Mart test!!! That is when you are in the store and you have a signal. I got a new one on E-bay and had it for a week,and I accidently (tried) put the wrong charger in it and screwed up the inside and the real charger would no longer go in the phone. It is easy to use, excellent reception. I recommend this phone for older folks that only want to make calls, because my mom wouldn't need a camera,bluetooth,mp3-4 player,keypad,etc. because she would never figure out how to use it anyway. You can also hear very well also.

This is a great phone! It is compact, full of features, has great reception, and looks very nice with its color combination.

I just bought one of these phones and it does not work right.
It basically has a mind of its own. it turns on and off by itself.
I have had 2 of these same model phones and they both have done the same thing.
I would not recommend this type of phone to anyone.

Overall I like this phone. It's cheap but gets the job done! It will let you send text messages, picture messages and all the standard things more expensive phones will also do. I recomend this phone for a very good replacement for a lost or broken phone.
