I recently got this phone around Thanksgiving time with the special deal from Verizon. It retails for $349.99, but we got them with a $300 rebate. Not bad, right?
I have nothing but good things to say about this phone. It's a little larger than some of my friends phone - but not overly large or bulky.
Battery life on the phone is very good. Recharging isn't really that long of a process either.
This is a color screened phone. It has a camera/camcorder. You can send them to yourself on the internet if you want to, fees apply. Photo contact directories are possible with this phone, which is nice to see the caller ID and a picture pop up.
The phone has internet, e-mail and instant messager abilities (AIM, MSN, Yahoo).
This is a V-Cast phone and has many options on the "Get It Now" menu - Get Tunes & Tones, PIX & FLIX, Fun & Games, News & Info, etc.
Some other features are Speakerphone, Speed Dial and Voice Dial. No need to train the phone to listen to your voice, just speak.
The phone also has an MP3 player, but I haven't used it so I can't tell you about it. It can also take a flash memory card.
Another feature of this phone that I've found particularly nice is the bluetooth compatibility. It is great being able to use the wireless headset and be within 30 feet of the phone and having a conversation. This helps a lot when I am driving as well - as I go to school over 450 miles from home and I can make calls on the road while driving. (New York State handsfree cell phone law)
It's a wonderful phone and I definitely recommend it! I'm learning and discovering new things about it every day!

This review is for the Samsung SCH a950 and the Samsung SCH a950 with VCast Music both for the Verizon Wireless network. This phone packs VCAST, Get It Now, a built in 1.3 megapixel camera, camcorder, stereo speakerphone, and Bluetooth wireless technology, it’s the ultimate in high speed, high tech and high style.
The main difference between the two models is the first generation allows you to play MP3 files that you downloaded to your memory card. All new models come flashed with the new software that basically took that capability away but replaced it with a WMA player (Microsoft Windows Media files). Opinions sway in many directions when it comes to MP3 vs. WMA none the less the new models only play WMA. If your looking for the MP3 version make sure you ask the seller before you buy. The plus side with WMA on the newer models is that you can search, preview, buy, and download songs in WMA format directly from and to your phone and another e-mail account that you setup with the service. You download the higher compressed file directly to the phone while the less compressed CD-Quality file is sent to your e-mail address. With an optional VCast Music Kit you get a USB Data cable, Windows Media 10 software and a pair of stereo headphones so you can download your WMA music files to your phone.
This is an excellent looking and solid phone. It has a lot of bells and whistles maybe too many, but it does the job and does it well. The Keypad is well laid out and has medium sized buttons; this may be a problem for those worried about fat fingering numbers. Another stand out feature of this phone is the Intenna. Basically the antenna is built into the case nothing extending out. The plus side is that the phone looks and feels great especially with the red metallic faceplate that is standard. The trade off is that you lose about a bar of signal strength. Those into the media player thing will appreciate the full functioning outside media player buttons and jog dial that quickly allows you to scroll through your files. It’s an awesome phone, great primary or backup phone if you lost your main phone or it was stolen.

This is the only phone that I have ever come across that actually allows you to record sound clips even from the radio and set them as ringtones!! its a quick and easy solution to get any ringtone from any song that you like to personalize your phone. I wish they would just release a new exact model of this phone. Samsung REALLY hit the bar with this phone!!!

The price on these phones is at a good level. Its not the best technology, but for
around $50 bucks you can get a phone,chargers and case in decent condition. It plays mp3's and you can set a sound you record to a ringtone. I'm not a V-cast user "I'm to cheap to pay for it" so I dont even use that feature. One of the drawbacks is the phone only takes up to a 1 GB SD card, but I really did'nt buy it to play music. Bottom line is the phones a solid performer and looks like its built to take some abuse. The following is Samsungs page for the Verizon SCH A950.

I have been using cell phones for the past eight years, and the Samsung SCH-A950 is BY FAR the best phone I've ever used. I love it so much that I have owned this style for the past three years. I was first attracted to the red and silver color, and the VCAST music feature. Now, I can't go anywhere without it! The sound quality is excellent, and I feel the camera takes pretty good pictures, especially for being a 1.3 megapixel. I wish Verizon would have kept this style. I highly recommend this phone!

I'm really pleased with the a950. I've been using it for a month now and it's got all the latest possible features: pictures, internet, music, slot for card for additional storage and others. The only drawback I have with it is the volume adjusts on the side of the phone and it's easy to grab it and change the volume unintentionally.

he was very decieving about the product i asked what he knew about the phone he /she said it worked when it was put away but he had no charger to see if it still works when i recieved it i bought a charger it powered on but the keys wouln't work then he siad that's why i sold it for parts which was not true at all. He said it did work when it was put it away.I felt they should have been more honest up front. i should recieve my money back i obviously wouldn't have paid that much for parts when i don't have a phone like that

It had dirty pictures on the phone when I received it. It was damaged. It took forever to get to my home. The seller did not respond to my emails. My ebay experience was horrible!

This phone is not just a phone ... it's an MP3 Player, VCAST for sharing videos, music, has an internal antennae, is a camera phone, and is a pleasure to read (my old phone was difficult to read) and is sharp looking and not bulky. I wanted a good texting phone with the big keypad, but couldn't get used to the size. I like the size of a flip phone, pocket size and am miserable at keeping my phones on a clip, they always fall off and end up in snow banks, and ran over! This is why I choose to stay free of contracts, and purchase what I want, when I want! Freedom... is nice. Very, very pleased with this phone, and am getting ready to purchase one just like it for mom. :) A definite buy item!

This phone has been an all time favorite of mine. When I upgraded to a Treo and passed this to my husband, he fell in love with it also. He needed it replaced and only wanted it replaced with one just like it.
The MP3 is awesome and easy to use. This is a durable phone and the battery life is the best I've ever had before and the standby is great. Phone clarity is excellent. Camera takes clear pictures. All in all, this is a great phone and everyone I've talked to that has had one has said that it is one of the best made!

This phone is loud! Loud music, loud calls, loud ringers. The mic picks up very well too with calls and video recording. It's a very solid phone and looks nice as well, I don't consider it a big phone but some people might. The only problem I have with it is that I get a bar less of reception then I did with my other phones, but that is a problem I've had with all Samsungs atleast where I live, some people think Samsungs have excellent reception in other areas.

Phone is rather large, but that might be okay if you put it in a purse. The phone does not recognize MP3 files, only WMA files. Microsoft makes free software to convert from MP3 to WMA (Windows Media Encoder), but it takes a long time to convert a song and you can only convert one song at a time. I don't know why they set up the phone's decoder to only recognize WMA.

Simply the best!Our purchase of the samsung SCH A950 phones was wonderfull. The description of the phones was exactly correct! They are the perfect phone/mp3 player. The pictures of the phones were clear and showed all that we got with the package. Our family was extremly pleased with this purchase.

I decided to replace my Chocolate phone and wanted to find one that was dependable, preferably a flip-phone so I wouldn't keep pushing buttons accidentally while talking like I did with my Chocolate, and looked at several different models. The Samsung SCH-A950 has a lot of the same features as the Chocolate (plays MP3s, uses micro-disk, connects to PC via USB cable, etc) and seemed to be the best option. It has a better battery life than the Chocolate, holds a ton of music and lets me customize ringtones. It takes good photos, pretty good videos, texts easily and is very dependable. The only thing I really don't like is that I transferred all my photos from my Chocolate and I cannot use some of them as pic ids because they are too big. Altogether, I would rate this phone very highly. A good, dependable, and still cool-looking phone that should be good for me for a very long time.
