I own 4 of these fast little printers. The replacement cartridge costs $80, but to add toner yourself cost only about $10. All is takes is unscrewing 5 screws. The other models are not that easy. Well worth the investment if you print a lot. My printer has paid for itself many times over

  Fast, inexpensive printer

I bought this printer mainly for my home office, to print black & white copies of papers that I need to fax.

I got this printer with a rebate, so I think it was about $30. It has performed flawlessly so far, and I've owned it about 6 months now. Other than being a little loud during warm-up, I have no complaints with the printer.

Other people have complained that the ink does not last long, but mine is still printing on the same cartridge. I guess it depends on how much you use it. Of course, everyone knows by now that new printers do not come with full ink cartridges anyway, so what are you gonna do?

Nice, fast printer for the price.

Our company is very happy with our new Samsung ML-1740. It is working very well, when we received our new printer all we did was plug it in and upload it to our computer and start working. Thank you again...

  Good printer when not broken
Review created: 12/10/07

If the printer hadn't been broken, it would have been great. These have a tendency to pop out some of the guides when a paper jam occurs. That's what appears to have happened to this one and in the process it broke some of the pieces inside that hold it together.

Finally, a good cheap laser printer
Review created: 05/24/07
by:

I've owned mine for about a year and a half with no problems so far. It's perfect for just about any smaller print job where you don't need color but you need the waterproof quality of laser. The gray scale is decent, not outstanding but it gets the job done. I'm mainly blown away that there's a laser printer that offers speed, quality and reliabilty for such a low price. The printer accepts serial or usb cables to operate. I paid somewhere around $40.00 for mine when it was new and found some really great, inexpensive replacement toner (non-oem) on ebay and I still have some of it left after a year! The paper cassette hold close to half a ream and heavier media like cardstock is fed to the back of the unit. I've read complaints about the noise level when it's activated out of sleep mode for a print job but it's minimal in my opinion and really the least of my concerns with this product. After using my ML-1740 I would upgrade to another Samsung laser printer in this series in a heartbeat. A competing model in this class of printers is probably the Brother HL series although I have no experience with them. Bottom line is if you're looking for an inexpensive, reliable and good quality monochrome laser printer then the Samsung ML-1740 is a great choice.

I needed this specific printer in my graphic art studio for printing on a specific substrate. The seller offered the needed item at a price that was lower than any place else. I utilize this pronter on a daily basis and it produces a product of the quality that I require. Seller and buyer completed the transaction flawlessly and I would highly recommend this seller to everyone.

  Samsung ML1740 Laser Printer

I bought it because I have a Samsung 1710 printer that has worked well for me and now I need another for my kid's computer. The 1740 printer I received was sent in a box that was smaller than the printer and had no padding or packing material at all. The set-up disc was cracked but the printer was still in one piece, so I couldn't file a claim with the Post Office, but it does not work, due to internal damage. I wish I could rate the performance for you, but thanks to a very poor seller/shipper - I can't. Iam still trying to resolve this thru ebay and paypal - it has been a month with no luck.

  For the money, it works
Review created: 01/08/05

Pros:
Cheap, fast, decent capacity tray, better for graphics than some believe.

Cons:
Starter cartridge doesn't last the advertised 1000 pages; noisy; absolutely murders envelopes.

I've had this printer for about four months. It would warrant no more than 3 stars if not for the fact that, after the frequently-offered rebate, it can be had for $99. In laser terms, a $99 printer probably should be absolute garbage. The 1740 is much better than garbage-- just keep in mind that it does have its quirks and limitations. But for such an inexpensive laser, this Samsung is very good. I used to own an NEC Superscript 860 circa 1997-- a $400 b/w laser bargain in its time-- that I loved dearly and that gave me four years of bulletproof service. I never even had to change the...

  Excellent Value printer
Review created: 10/02/04
by: wakiz -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Fast print speed, compact

Cons:
none yet

I chose a laser printer over an ink jet printer because of the overall costs of the printer and its operation. I have owned an inkjet printer in the past only to find that I seldom printed anything in color. When I didn't use it for a while, the ink would leak and clog the heads or evaporate. Then to clean the heads it would use even more ink. At $30-$45 for a cartridge, that printer started getting expensive. The black ink only lasts about 500 pages, which was mainly what I mainly used. A laser printer has a slightly higher initial cost, but costs less to operate. Since I need almost no...

  Good cheap printer
Review created: 04/08/05
by: vze26v5x -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Cheap, fast, reliable.

Cons:
Flimsy trays, awkward to load paper.

I finally got around to buying a laser printer last January, about a year after my last inkjet finally died on me. I got the usual sale and rebate, so I paid $99 for the printer. It was easy to set up, although the paper tray is a little fiddly to load until you get used to it. The plastic trays feel a little flimsy, but since the printer just sits on my desk, it hasn't mattered yet. Also, when I use it, I think back to my first printer, a $300 black and white inkjet, and this one is miles better. It even prints decent grayscale. I have since printed about 900 pages, and everything is working.

Great for plain paper text printing!
Review created: 02/03/05
by: billnu -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Affordable,fast printing-toner refillable

Cons:
Manual feed temperamental-new cartridges $$$

There are lots of good reviews already written, so I'll just add my experiences. I've had this printer for about 8 months now, and it only prints an average of 10 pages a day for school or work. Compared to the slow,ink-hogging,noisy Epson inkjet it replaced, this is a great printer. The PROS: (1)It's every bit the printer that my old HP LaserJet 400 was that I paid $600+ way back when! I paid $99 for this printer. (2)I've used Avery labels with no problem. (3)Toner can be refilled for under $10! It works. (4)Lighting fast once it warms up. (5)250 sheet paper tray (6)I plugged it in, hooked..

  Be careful
Review created: 01/12/05
by: levi777 -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Clean, sharp print.

Cons:
NO heavy paper, power glutton (made my lights dim when running), first page slow

This printer does NOT handle card stock at ALL. And you can't find that information ANYWHERE except on the CD included with the printer. My fiancee and I bought this printer with the intent of printing our own wedding invitations. If you're thinking about it, don't. Unfortunately, I waited too long to test its capabilities. I found that the printer left a "ghost" image of the text lower on the invitation stock. I was unsure of what caused this, and tried several other card stocks. I pulled out the setup guide that was included in the box and found no information about paper weight capacity. I.
