The first thing when deciding on a TV is what technology you want to go with. DLP vs LCD vs Plasma vs etc.... After doing a lot of research I decided that DLP was the way to go.

Plasma's are super rich in color and are thin enough to be wall mountable, while at the same time being cost effective. The drawback is that the colors begin to fade as the plasma gas disapates.

LCD's don't have the disadvantage of Plasma's, so as a result you really pay for it.

DLP is somewhere in the middle. The picture is fairly good, and you can get large size DLPs that offer the best size to price ratio - i.e your wife won't kill you when you bring home huge a DLP.

They're usually not thin enough to be wall mountable, but are generally fairly light despite the size. It's true that the DLP bulb will eventually burn out - but that's no big deal to replace after a couple of years.

So let's talk about the Samsung HLN5065W. Samsung really knocked the ball out of the park with this series of TVs. They look slick, the colors are sharp and bright, they have a very decent range of viewing angles. I noticed if you're positioned very low (like lying on the floor) you can notice some ghosting - but that's at a pretty extreme angle.

Functionality wise it supports all the latest interfaces, has a built in high def Cable decoder, picture picture.... Input wise you're looking at:

1) ONE DVI input - you definitely want an HDTV with this type of input, it's the clearest form of HD signal you can get today.
2) TWO High Definition component inputs (they can handle 1080i and 720p) - this is also a very high quality HD signal, but it is analog as opposed to DVI which is purely digital.
3) ONE regular component input (handles only 480i).
4) TWO S-Video inputs
5) TWO regular (RCA jack) video inputs
6) ONE VGA input used for your connecting your PC to. This is nice if you want to do a presentation from your PC using the TV as a monitor.

So overall a great TV, and great value for the price.

Biggest bang for the buck and a great picture also

After weeks of researching TV's (Plasma vs. DLP vs. LCD)I chose this DLP because of no burn in when watching a station with the static channel ID logo or a still image while gaming. Also even if the bulb would eventually burn our you can replace it yourself and the TV will look as new as day one. So you could virtually use this set forever. I chose a Samsung model due to their high ratings and reputation in the DLP field of technology. You cannot go wrong with this TV.

  Good price. Bad luck?

I bought this TV after extensive research. LCD or DLP? I finally got if for such a great deal ($1700 w/tax) that I pulled the trigger. I bought all my fancy cables and a new surround sound system. Exactly 35 days after I bought the TV it would not turn on. All the lights blinked and it started to warm up and then shut down. The manual said the bulb. I wasn't sure but was able to take it back and replace it with a new one. The picture is great and the price was very fair. I just hope that it was just my luck and not a sign of continued problems in the future.
