I saw this movie years ago, and have never forgotten it. It is a diffrent kind of love story. The closest other movie I could compare it to, is Bridges on Madison County. Watching these to people grow up through their relationship was heart warming. Love does come twice, but not always at the right time.
I have always enjoyed "Same Time Next Year" because it was just a beautiful movie about two people from different backrounds that enjoyed each other's company one a year for over 25 years even though they were married to other people.
It also relates to me the different periods of life they were in and also the political scene of the time... Simply a feel good movie.
Classic love story - wanted to be sure I have it to watch over and over. Story line and characters very rich. The setting of the movie is pretty and the clever use of the different time periods of the movie transcend all generations. The music is a classic.
I bought this DVD a few weeks ago and have watched it over and over and over again. It brings back some melancholy memories from when I was young, but in a good way! This movie, "Same Time, Next Year" is an absolute classic. It rates right up there at the top with "Gone With the Wind" and "Peyton Place" in fact, the next movie I will look for will be "Peyton Place" I was extremely impressed with the quality of the DVD. It was new, sealed, in good shape, the packaging was in good shape, as well and the sound was right on. I feel good about buying this movie through Ebay and will do so again. With the price of the DVD (and I chose the "Buy It Now" method...it gave me satisfaction knowing that I didn't have to wonder if I'd get it or not, I knew I was getting it and that is a good feeling. The feeling that you get that's better than that is the feeling when you see that your movie has arrived. What I find so great about this film I chose is the price on Ebay and the shipping...add those together and it's still cheaper than going to a Video Store and buying it off the rack. With the price of gas these days...it's worth the wait to receive it by mail. Last point about my movie...the warm and fuzzy feelings that this movie brought to me is worth a thousand words, it's priceless! I decided to try and find this movie, "Same Time, Next Year" on Ebay, because I'd tried to special order it in the local Video Store in my town (small rural area) and they told me it wasn't made anymore, so I'd been searching for this flick to show up for years and years. I'm so glad that I decided to try my luck with Ebay...I found it in seconds. I was so amazed at the quantities of this one film that I've been searching for ages for. In fact, I think I'm going to go watch it again right now~
This movie was an all time great, a hard to find..and you guys found it ! Movie was in excelent contdion. thank you so much. looking forward to doing business with you again!
A friend mentioned that he had seen the movie years ago and recommended that I see it, if I could find it. I found the movie very interesting and enjoyable. Since then I have recommended it to others with eBay as my source.
One of my favorite movies ever!!!! It is a must see for the romantic spirit in all of us. The scenery is gorgeous...the theme song is lovely...the actors are absolutely perfect for their roles. Don't miss seeing this one!
Same Time, Next Year is offers a little of tears and laughs, so you need some popcorn and seat back a see Alan Alda and Ellen Burstyn. They give fabulous performances.
I was very happy with my ordering through Ebay. I have always been told how easy it is to buy this way, and now I agree. I am now looking for another movie "Chapter Two" but have been unable to find it. I would appreciate any help that you could give me in finding this movie. It is another one of my favorite movies. I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you for your assistance. If you would need to contact me, my Email address is gpattypc3@comcast.net, and my phone is 412-766-8797. I look forward to making more purchases in the future.
This movie is so much fun. True, it is about adultery, which I don't personally believe in, but it's just a movie. You can't help but fall in love with the characters. I also enjoy their transformations through the years and their deep love for each other. This is a true romantic comedy. I decided to replace the copy I already had because it was VHS and had been watched so many times it was worn out!
I love this movie it is my favorite movie...it's so romantic and to see how the characters change over the many years is wonderful...Alan Alda and Ellen Brystan (spelling...duh) are great in this movie...I highly recommend it ! I can watch it over and over again !
The movie itself is great. I had seen it on TV and have been trying to purchase it every since. When one came up for auction on E-bay I just had to purchase it. I reviewed the seller's selling history (100% positive)and used their 'Buy it Now' option. After waiting two weeks for it to arrive and many e-mails to the seller the seller removed their membership and I never received the item. I had used PayPal for my purchase so I filed a claim with them but they told me there was nothing they could do so I'm just out. I'm a very disappointed customer.
this is one of my farvoit movies. i'm glad i was able to get it from e-bay. it took a little longer to get here that other movies i have order in the past.
Same Time Next Year is one of my favorite movies and I waited a long time for it to come out on DVD. It may be corny and out of date but Alan Alda and Ellen Burstyn are brilliant. It makes me laugh and cry every time I watch it. I recommend it highly.
I decided to buy Same Time, Next Year because I really enjoy the movie and it is difficult to find... would have liked to provide an excellent rating...
I rated this movie excellent because there is nothing higher. If possible I would give it a 100 rating. The movie was filmed in 1978 with two of the best matched actors - Alan Alda and Ellen Burstyn. You will laugh, cry, and be totally mesmerized by the connection between a couple who love each other with a love we all hope for - even if it is only realized over one weekend a year. The two of them meet accidentally at a small lodge, fall in like immediately, then fall so in love that in spite of the fact that they are both married to others, they agree to meet on the same weekend a year later. When they do, they find that they need to continue this relationship every year. And so their relationship grows through the years through different phases of their lives. At times they show up and they are totally opposite of each other but they show it is what is on the inside of people that makes the connection. I recommend this movie on the highest level. Now - I will go watch it once again and enjoy it as much as I did the very first time.
The previous review from 1stelizabeth( 5 ) was about a different seller, NOT the one associated with when you clicked on this movie review.
What you clicked on was to be: A movie review for Same time Next Year - a movie that permits you to merge your early romantic times with those of these characters. The merge is inspired by showing how these marrieds have independently evolved during the same 1951-77 world events. How is this merge achieved? Snapshots of their emotional meetings are in 5 year increments and proceeded by current events that have transpired during the interval. If the viewer evolved during the same time period, many charactertics should be the same as these characters. I'm dating myself but this is my romantic comedy now on DVD.
The seller never sent it although they had assured me they would send and it was listed on a packing slip with another item. After 3 weeks I finally emailed them asking why it wasn't here yet, at which time they made an attempt at an apology and said it was not available! I'm still looking for somewhere else to purchase it.

Pros: A wonderful old movie
Cons: ......
The Story Burstyn and Alda meet at a vacation resort. He's an accountant in N.J., she's a housewife in Ca. They are young and in love ~ with their respective spouses. This does not stop a little tickle between the sheets for them though. Realizing the error of their ways, they part, but agree to meet in the same place, five years later. As the story progresses, so do their lives and the times. We watch them move from dewy-eyed newlyweds to hippies to radicals to grandparents to 'comfortable old shoes'. Some Info This film was adapted from the long running screen play by Bernard Slade. The...

Pros: Excellent performances by both Alda and Burstyn. Touchning story of a growing relationship far beyond a one-night stand
Cons: The ending.
I must admit that I was fairly surprised to see that "Same Time, Next Year" had not received a large number of Epinions written on it. I was not at all surprised, however, to see that all of the ones which have been written were highly enthusiastic. This is the film which, for me, cemented Alan Alda's place among the ranks of serious actors to be reckoned with. I can only guess that because the film is older, many people have simply not thought about it as a topic for review, and this, if true, would be a great shame. The movie is set up as a series of vignettes, spaced irregularly over the...

Pros: AWESOME, AWESOME movie! Great acting! Love the "less is more" setting!
Cons: NOTHING!!!
Remember Bridges of Madison County? Remember the love and pain? I will never forget Clint Eastwood making "the big turn" out of town. The pain and love in Francesca's eyes-the devotion to her husband and family. They shared such a special love-the kind of love that can only come from knowing each other a few days. Not having to worry about her PMS. Not having to worry about his dirty underwear everywhere. No fights about how to raise the kids or where's the money going. The kind of love when you only get to know the good things. Now imagine that weekend fling happening over and over, spanning.

Pros: Wonderful acting, especially by Burstyn; touching love story of soulmates who find each other
Cons: Bittersweet ending; a few aspects seem outdated 20+ years later; adultery may bother some
Ellen Burstyn is wonderful here, bringing her Tony-winning stage role to the big screen. It is easy to see that Burstyn, the originator of the role of Doris, has come to fully inhabit the character after having spent so much time playing her on Broadway. So often, when a show goes from theatre to film, the stage actor doesn't get the part. I am so glad Ellen Burstyn played Doris in the movie. She IS Doris to me, and it is difficult to imagine anyone else in the role. I think she is one of the greatest actresses ever, and still looks luminous today. The first time I watched Same Time, Next...

Same Time, Next Year Holds its Own Through the Decades

Pros: Chemistry between Alan Alda and Ellen Burstyn
Cons: After 20 years of its release, some of the characterizations seem slightly outdated
In Same Time, Next Year the premise is simple. Written originally as a stage play and adapted here for the big screen by Bernard Slade, George (Alan Alda) and Doris (Ellen Burstyn) are strangers who meet at a bed and breakfast and share dinner. They consequently share a bed that night and breakfast, of sorts, the next morning. The film traces their tenuous yet somehow binding relationship as they meet one weekend a year for the next 26 years. Alda is completely believable as the logical, glib CPA ("I don't even know if you read 'Catcher in The Rye'") who falls head over heels for Doris, the...
