Samantha Parkington, an orphan living with her grandmother, is lonely since her best friend, her Uncle Gard, is away in Europe. To her delight, some new servants come to work at a neighbor's house. When Samantha discovers that the family includes three girls and one of them is her age, she is delighted. Samantha quickly becomes best friends with Nellie, the oldest.
After a while, Uncle Gard returns from his trip. Samantha is delighted of course until she finds out that the woman he brought back with him, Cornelia, is his fiancee. Samantha is mad at Uncle Gard because she thinks that he will forget about her. But fortunately Cornelia loves kids and becomes fast friends with Samantha. After their wedding, Samantha takes an extended trip to visit them in New York City.
While in New York, Samantha finds out that Nellie, her best friend, and her sisters have been orphaned and sent to an orphanage in the city. Samantha goes to visit them and discovers the squalid conditions they live in. Then things become even worse: Nellie is going to be separated from her two sisters and sent out West to a farm. Determined not to let that happen, Samantha hatches a daring plan to rescue Nellie and her sisters.
"Samantha: An American Girl Holiday" was truly a delightful film for the entire family. The acting and casting was top notch especially for a TV movie. AnnaSophia Robb (also in "Because of Winn-Dixie") really shines in her movie debut. She captures the Samantha of the books perfectly and is great! Jordan Bridges is also perfect as the playful and fun-filled Uncle Gard. While this movie doesn't follow the books perfectly, it totally captures the spirit and is a great movie all around! If you love the American Girl books, you can't miss this movie! Rated 5/5

This is a great kids show. I love the history and lessons taught by this movie. You don't have to worry about profanity or inappropriate content with this show. This is a great movie for a wide age range of kids.

This American Girl movie is not exaclty like the books, but has great family content. My daughter had seen this earlier at a friend's house and we got for her as a surprise ~ she loves it! Entertaining and historically accurate you get a picture of life at the turn of the century. It has parallels drawn between today's life and the explosion of technologies to the emergence of so many inventions of that era. Great movie!

Wonder story for young girls from ages 4 and beyond.Review created: 04/03/08

The movie shows how girls of that time had to behave and dress. Also, it teaches history and some of the injustices that this country went through. It also brought my daughters and me closer watching a movie together that we all enjoyed. Great experience. I only wish there were more of them to watch - one for every day of the week!

Lovely movie based on the American Girl doll SamanthaIf you love history or wish to know what it was like to live in America in the early 1900's,then you will love this movie! This is a quality made film, from the sets to the costumes and the fine job of acting, which will leave you feeling as if you yourself had traveled back in time. Young girls will immediatly adore Samantha and the story even will appeal to adults making this a great movie for mother's to watch with their daughters who are approximately ages 6 and up. The character Samantha is a wonderful roll model for young girls as she is sweet and kind and because she follows her heart to try to make the world around her a better place even even while dealing with her own personal disappointments. I saw just part of this movie on t.v. and had to buy my own copy so I could see the complete movie. A perfect family film to watch around the holidays or just anytime! This film will leave you smiling with it's happy ending!

We absolutely love this DVD. It really is great and has really been wonderful for my daughter in a day when there are so few good role models. I am pleased with how an American Girl influences my daughter to enjoy being young and to be a little lady. I bought it, because I thought it would encourage femininity and give her good role models. Fabulous!My daughters absolutely love the DVD. I love the way it teaches them about the history of America and what is was like well before they were born! My girls asked many questions about orphanages, cars back then and why were girls not allowed to vote for the president. It was enjoyable and educational for all. Thank you again.

I purchased this for my 8 year old daughter and she loves it! It has been watched several times and in my opinion, is the best of the collection. It is a great family movie and would make an excellent gift. This is a perfect movie to watch during the holiday season, as it reminds us of those less fortunate, therefore showing a great example of a true American Girl.

we had a job to find it in the shops so we found a seller abroad usa i think
on ebay was bought it and we soon received it

Samantha is a great story, just as all the other American Girl movies. Based on the books, the movies are about the leading character. Samantha wasn't my favorite or my daughter's favorite (she loved Felicity, I loved Molly) but it's good nevertheless.

I bought this for my 7 year old daughter who loves the American Girls. It is a wonderful story about a young orphan girl that is raised by her wealthy grandmother. She becomes friends with a young servant girl that works for her neighbors. The movie focuses on the friendship or these 2 young girls and their ups and downs.

I bought this for my 10 year old daughter who is an American Girl fan. We watched it together and I found it to be a great movie in every way, one we will watch over and over again. We haven't read the Samantha books yet, so I'm not sure how it follows the book, but we highly recommend it.
