This is one of my favorite authors so when I saw this book placed on e bay for sale I went for it. I thought that it maybe a better deal if I got a reasonable price instead of paying more money at a local book store. Sure enough I was the only bidder and getting a good deal on the price. This book was in perfect condition almost like a new book. way to go e bay.

Eating Rocks: Honey, Let Me Be Your Salty Dog

Pros:
Fascinating, insightful, and engaging nuts-and-bolts history

Cons:
Too brief

Grand history is often about the very things people most like to read about: sex, power, money, warfare, and food. Nuts-and-bolts history, though, the story of the nail that was lost (and from that loss, the consequent loss of horseshoe, horse, rider, message, battle, and kingdom), can be the most satisfying, to write and to read. Sometimes the two intersect. Once upon a time, not so very long ago, everyone no. Actually, that s not true. Say rather that, until recently, most educated people knew that at least linguistically sexual desire, soldiering, and one s salary all stemmed from one...

  A real mixture of story

Pros:
detailed history of salt - its contributions, detriments, and power in history

Cons:
dry on occasion.

Including recipes at the beginning of each chapter of things known to include salt (breads, fish...), Mark Kurlansky's book about salt is at once a geography lesson, a history lesson, and a look at how salt has affected the globe. Beginning in China before the birth of Christ, when water was pumped out of salt dehydration ponds to let salt dry out for use, the very first plumbing and indoor water systems were invented. The photo in the book shows many bamboo pipes, connected together so intricately, and with so many used, it looks like a roller coaster course! This is a great book! That salt..
