S.W.A.T. (2003, VHS)

You're Either SWAT or You're Not
Review created: 08/08/03

Pros:
Excellent character development

Cons:
a tad predictable

Since Darryl Gates started Special Weapons And Tactical in Los Angeles many moons ago, numerous movies and TV series have been made. Clark Johnson's SWAT, which was released today, is one of the best. To be honest, I went in expecting to be slightly amused, but not excited. I love it when I'm wrong. Starting out, you have the SWAT team working a bank robbery. One set of partners is ordered to hold position, but decide they have the bird's eye and can save the day..and they do..and do. They're heroes to the city, but they disobeyed a direct order. Street (Collin Farrell) is offered to be put...

Pros:
Lots of action. Entertaining movie.

Cons:
No character development. Jerky camera movement.

I first saw a preview for S.W.A.T. when I went to see The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. At that time, I thought I didn t want to see S.W.A.T. Then I saw the preview again and saw ads on television for the movie. Then I got to thinking that it might be all right to see, but I wasn t going to make a special effort to see it. I had the opportunity to go see it, so I decided to go. During the final preview, the sound went out. It was not back on when the movie started. We had to sit there and watch about ten minutes of the movie with no sound before they got it fixed. They didn t start the...

 Formulaic fun, surely not? Lean-N-Mean
Review created: 12/10/03

Pros:
Cast, well choreographed action, soundtrack.

Cons:
Very formulaic, captain was a bore.

I'm not really a fan of big budget, formulaic action peaces, I mean I fail to see the point of re-telling the same shallow story hundreds of times over, yet I had heard a few good things about Director Clark Johnson's (His first directorial film, but he has worked on TV shows such as NYPD Blue) Swat. Yes it's formulaic, unoriginal and your typical big budget nonsense, but for some reason I actually liked it this time. Go figure. Of course there can be no denying that the storyline to Swat remains incredibly formulaic, and so my enjoyment was slightly diminished by the fact that I knew...

S.W.A.T. - Fire In the Hole!
Review created: 08/09/03
by: Rock_On -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
colin farrell has a strong role, Michelle Rodriguez(Mmm mmm good)

Cons:
story unclear at times, story is kind of weak (but enjoyable)

Like most guys who see an adrenaline rush as a game instead of a potential danger to life, I love anything that has to do with weapons, tactical espionage, and the like. Myself, I love to paintball when I find the time, and while I don t have a 2003 Autococker or a custom 2003 Angel (those who don t know Paintball need not think about what Autocockers and Angels are), I treat my pretty little Custom Spyder TL Plus like a real gun. I ve customized it to my liking, including a scope with a night vision toggle, customized butt to fit my shoulder perfectly, and a silencer. Granted, a paintball...

S.W.A.T. is a Way of Life BABY!
Review created: 08/11/03
by: christine283 -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Character chemistry, great soundtrack

Cons:
Not Bruckheimer production quality...probably because it's produced by Clark Johnson

Alright -- let me go ahead and give a quick synopsis: We begin with a hostage scene at a bank in L.A. Jim Street (Colin Farrell) and his partner Bryan Gamble (Jeremy Renner) defy their orders to hold once they get inside the building. At the same time Gamble takes out the suspect with the hostage, he shoots the hostage in the shoulder. Thus Street and Gamble are taken off S.W.A.T. Street takes it with dignity since being a cop is his life, but Gamble goes crazy and is kicked off the force entirely. Street ends up making a deal with the captain since it was Gamble who disobeyed orders. Street..
