The Rutles were the legendary band combining the best of the Beatles with the best of Monty Python. Anyone who loves either will love this.

) Back in the Spring of 1978, NBC broadcast a unique program about the pre-Fab Four- Dirk McQuigley, Ron Nasty, Stig O'Hara and Barry Wom; this group was, of course, known as The Rutles. With their wacky inventiveness and colorful musical talents, The Rutles ascended to the top of the world like no one else did before or since. This show tells about their lives, loves and legacy. Exploring the career of this group, the program takes a look at when they began in Liverpool; starting out in Hamburg with a 5th Rutle named Leppo; taking on Leggy Mountbatten as their manager; releasing such hit singles as "Number One", "With A Girl Like You" and "Between Us"; making their U.S. debut on The Ed Sullivan Show in February 1964; starring in the films "A Hard Day's Rut" and "Ouch!"; recording classic albums like "Sgt. Rutter's Only Darts Club Band" and "Shabby Road"; concieving the ill-fated "Tragical History Tour"; the animated movie "Yellow Submarine Sandwich"; announcing the formation of Rutle Corps; and ending with their last public performance in "Let It Rot". Featuring appearances by Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, Gilda Radner, Ron Wood, Paul Simon, Mick Jagger and George Harrison, "All You Need Is Cash" is a special look at one of England's most distinctive musical artists to ever grace America and the rest of the world.

Monty Python Meets The BeatlesReview created: 07/04/08

What can I say? This is a classic--a priceless (and affectionate) spoof of rocumentaries in general and of the Beatles in particular, full of inside jokes and wry observations on the silliness of modern pop culture. It's laugh out loud funny even while it's making a larger, very subtle point about how we waste our time. If you liked "Spinal Tap," you will love "The Rutles."

A great addition to any Beatles or Monty Python collection. A perfect parody on all the Beatles documentaries and the songs are close to the songs parodied such as Get Up and Go is to Get Back. I remember seeing the original broadcast on tv and now my 14 year old daughter (who recently got into the Beatles) is able to see a great take on the fab four.

This spoof documentary on a Beatles-like pop group written and performed
by ex-Python Eric Idle and ex-Bonzo Dog Band member Neil Innes,
with plenty of cameos from George Harrison, Paul Simon, Mick Jagger
(and Bianca), John Belushi, Bill Murray, Gilda Radner, Dan Aykroyd and Michael Palin. The songs are terrific and keep wonderfully in style with the Beatles sound.
There is a segment where the Rutles appear on the Sullivan show, in which the original Sullivan footage is used for the intro--a simple but effective dubbing of "Rutles" for
"Beatles" is used. They mockumentary follows every step of the Beatles rise to stardom and it’s eventual disbanding. Even tracing the roots of their music to New Orleans. They even do an impressive animation satire of "Yellow Submarine." If you enjoy Monty Python and/or vintage Saturday Night Live you will love this! If you like this you should check out Jabberwocky (Michael Palin) and Fawlty Towers (John Cleese). The only comment is would have that is negative is that there is no subtitles on this dvd and I love subtitles. There is a commentary and introductions by Eric Idle that is worth a watch and a photo gallery with selected memoirs of Eric's. Also has a few deleted scenes. A Must Have for any Python fan.
