This is not my favorite Beatles album but two of my favorite Beatles songs (Norweigian Wood, Girl) are on this one and those two alone are worth buying the CD. Heck, this CD would be worth the price if the only good song on it was Girl. Everytime they say the word girl it sounds like somebody is taking a puff of something. Good times. An added bonus is the awesome piano solo on In My Life. Beautiful!

"Had you come some other day, then it might not have been like this"

Pros:
Many of the Beatles best songs, new sounds like fuzz bass and sitar, cool cover

Cons:
I'm Looking Through You gets on my nerves. It's not horrible, though

In October 1965, the Beatles began recording their sixth album, Rubber Soul. As was typical in those days, the Beatles recorded for about a month and completed the album less than three weeks before its scheduled release date. But this album marked a turning point in Beatles history and is often seen as their first masterpiece. Their previous album, Help!, had shown signs of the Beatles' maturity, with more personal lyrics and different sounds. With Rubber Soul, the Beatles moved past songs like "I Want to Hold Your Hand" and "She Loves You" and made an album that made adults take their music.

  The Beatles - Rubber Soul
Review created: 05/03/07

Pros:
Excellent songs

Cons:
Sound-production could have been better, Beatles have not evolved entirely from the Mop Top days.

When I had first acquired Rubber Soul on CD so many years ago, it was so hard, as an American, to get used to the different track listing. The album didn't open with I've Just Seen a Face anymore, in fact it's not even on this CD. I slowly learned that their label in America, Capitol, used to milk the Beatle Cow in the first couple of years and output more product than The Beatles were producing in the UK. In America, Rubber Soul was considered the band's 10th album (11th if you count the Vee-Jay release), while back in the UK, this release was The Beatles' sixth album. Wouldn't you know that.

Where it all began W/O - The Beatles transforming moment
Review created: 04/17/03

Pros:
Incredible vocals, song writing and stylistic experimentation - tragically romantic theme and humor

Cons:
What were their faults...none that I can think of.

From the left hand edge Where it all began is an interesting musical question, forcing one back toward the earliest musical memories. Probably my mother s election to Job s Daughter Queen of Lynnwood High School had a small effect, her theme being let all my life be music. The endless songs and concerts as I listened and grew over time and years, following the careers of which musicians were earliest influences on my mind. The Beatles were always there. Their best albums probably being those that helped them transition away from the silly mop top music of 1960 to the psychedelic musings and...

  Plastic soul?
Review created: 07/11/00
by: sparkospunky -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
It's the Beatles of course!

Cons:
It will always pale sitting beside Revolver

At the conclusion of a demo version of I'm Down on the Beatles Anthology 2, Paul McCartney is heard to exclaim "Plastic soul, man, plastic soul!" I would like to think that the title to Rubber Soul was born there, but I can't say that for certain. One thing I do know for certain is that Rubber Soul was the precursor to the Beatles' greatest achievement, Revolver. Rubber Soul, although not quite as grand and groundbreaking as Revolver, is still a great album in its own right. A list of the tracks and my interpretation of each follows. 1. Drive My Car--A flat out rocker. A driving piano, played.
