Right-Brained Children in a Left-Brained World by Jeffrey Freed, Laurie Parsons (1998)

I am mom to 7, step mom to 1. The one is adhd, bi-polar, was cocaine positive at birth, so had alot of issues to overcome. He is a clever, intelligent, curious, loving child who can also drive you crazy with his rebelliousness, inability to complete a task,etc. This book was a true God send. The fact that he is totally right brained and my daughter who is the same age is almost totally left brained, explained alot of their conflicts to me. They think nothing alike. This book helped me understand all of my kids not just the youngest, and it actually explained alot of the way I function. I LOVE this book.

I love this books because it gives you so much insight as to how the left and right brained individuals think and reason. So, I bought this book because my 7 year old son is strictly a right brainer and is also left-handed. I am a stay at home mom as well as a home schooling mom. I was always wondering when given directives why it seemed so difficult for him to respond. Or why he was very creative but had difficulty doing basic task. Until now, I thought that he wasn't paying attention to me, was lazy, and was just zoning me out. But in fact he can't do more that 1 or 2 directives at a time. I was overloading his brain with information that he couldn't process and then put into action. Finding this out has made me a lot more patient these days. Today, we have a great relationship. I now know his strengths and his limitations and we keep trying new things daily to see how he responds. Thanks so much for this book it has been a Godsend.
