I originally bought this CD for the song "By the Mark." I was not disappointed! This song, as well as many of the others, are supurb examples of current bluegrass with the old-time sound. I listened to it over and over again. There were, however, a few songs dotting the CD that seemed to be a bit off, different from the rest. I wouldn't say exactly that I didn't like them, as much as I'd say that they seemed to detract from the mood of the CD as a whole. Other than true old-time bluegrass, I really have nothing to compare this with. I simply heard the song "By the Mark" at church, fell in love with it, and was given a chord sheet with Gillian Welch's name at the bottom. The person who passed this on to me told me the name of the CD, but that was it--nothing about it. I bought it blind, trusting intuition. It paid off. I hope you'll take a listen, and enjoy the music and the message. Some may say the songs are depressing, but I personally found them somehow comforting.
