U2 Rattle and Hum
Review created: 03/08/08

U2 prehaps the best band on the planet right now. I purchased this c.d. when it was first released in 1988 and at some point sold it or traded it. Anyway after seeing the U2 3D concert at IMAX I decided that I wanted Rattle and Hum back in my collection. So what better place to find it than on Ebay.

I am very pleased with U2's live/studio 1988 release "Rattle and Hum." The album boasts a very collective sound and, being a U2 fan I can say that this is a must have!

 U2 Best ever
Review created: 04/06/07

Deepness, and reflectivy is what you get when you listen to the energy that is U2. Arguably, U2 is the best band since The doors, or even Hendrix. It is amazing that a relativly "new" band can be so versitile. BB King makes an apperrance as well

It's U2 at their finest. I not only recommend this CD, but also the DVD. You won't appreciate it, until you've experienced Rattle And Hum in it fullness.

 Mixin' it up
Review created: 11/10/06

U2 mixes it up with blues ("When Love Comes To Town") and I just die happy. I wasn't too crazy about all the songs on this CD, but the fantastic ones make up for them (such as "Helter Skelter") Plus, considering it's got songs that were recorded live, you can practically taste the energy.

This is one of my all time favorite albums. While I respect U2s versatility to keep moving in new musical directions, this album along with Joshua Tree were U2 at it's best.

A chance to see the "real" guys that make up U2
Review created: 09/07/06(updated 09/08/06)
by:

This album was not only a great mix of music that is classic U2, but it is also a glimpse inside the minds of the men who made the music. It's a chance to see that these 4 guys from Dublin are, indeed, human. You see the differences in their personalities and their musical likings (a precursor to their all-to-close-call with calling it quits before sticking it out to release Achtung Baby).
The music is a mix of new stuff, old stuff, live stuff and studio stuff. They have some great help on some of the recordings from some known and lesser-known people. "Still haven't found what I'm looking for" was backed by a gospel choir in NYC and "When love comes to town" was recorded with the blues man himself, BB King (including some pretty high compliments from King, regarding Bono's lyric writing abilities).
This album, recorded during their "Joshua Tree" tour, shows the growth that brought about the new U2 sound. This tour introduced them to the music that would eventually change their whole view of recording. The DVD/Video of the same name includes even more looks behind the scenes and is worth the price if you are a U2 fan. Check it out here on ebay. All in all, a truly great album with some of the deepest, meaningful music and lyrics released by U2 to date. And the look inside is a real bonus.

Excellent, one of the best CD's ever made

This album is simply one of the best U2 ever wrote, aswell as Achtung Baby.

The song 'desire' is a raw adrenaline rush of music with rough tones and exceptional guitars and drums.

'All I want is u' is a beautiful ballad that Bono wrote and one of the most relaxing and inspiring love songs mixed together, like a crying teenager pouring his heart out, only to get ripped apart by life.

'Pride' is a tribute to the fall of apartheid, and is one of the most moving songs I've ever heard, the acoustics are sensational, and the melody is entrancing, but like all U2 songs, the lyrics and the ability to make love to the music is what the band excel in, sounding like they are playing their souls on their instruments.

'Angel of Harlem' is an urban night song, which brings to life a dark void of his personality that you would swear was written while Bono was high on something. Its simply breathtaking, sounding like a very metallic melody with a coarse undertone that reverberates throughout the whole song. Very very inspiring song.

All in all, one of their best, if only 2nd to their greatest CD Achtung Baby.

Angel in Devil's Shoes, Salvation in the Blues
Review created: 01/17/04
by: divad23 -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
New studio material is highly enjoyable in its diversity, plus a quality live track or two.

Cons:
Awful, AWFUL pacing; embarassing comments from Bono during live performances.

When I first set out to review all of U2's albums, I honestly didn't realize how difficult it would be. I know I've said that in almost every U2 review thus far, but as I moved away from their techno-influenced 90's output into their 80's heyday of shimmering arena rock, I realized that I had hit an obstacle. Rattle and Hum. The strange, transitional album (if you can in fact call it an album) that documented an Irish band fascinated with the culture and music of America, and all too aware of their fame in said country. Released in 1988, right after The Joshua Tree had blown up in a big way,..

Wide Awake in America, U2 Attempts to Rattle and Hum at the Same Time

Pros:
Some classic U2 songs performed live combined with new material

Cons:
uninspired cover songs; Bono puts on a sanctimonious air in concert

It's the mid-1980's, you've been a critical darling your entire career, and you've just hit commercial paydirt. What is your next move? If you are Bruce Springsteen you follow it up with a career spanning 5 record live album. If you are U2 you do something more ambitious. You go on tour, film it for theatrical distribution, and release a 2 record set consisting of live material plus new songs detailing your latest obsession, The United States of America. Specifically, the country in terms of its blues, soul, and folk traditions. It's amazing that the resulting album, Rattle and Hum, did not...

 U2 Can "Rattle and Hum"
Review created: 07/02/01
by: lambchops-- a member of Epinions and Lead in Music

Pros:
Great vocals, great covers, great live music...

Cons:
Too short, sometimes annoying live tracks...

Yeah, okay. I'm a bit partial to this album. But, think of it this way. Why would I do a review unless I had a strong opinion about an album? Well, "Rattle and Hum" released in 1988 is my absolute favorite U2 album hands down. I realize that there have been other albums that have gotten more recognition like "The Joshua Tree" and last year's "All That You Can't Leave Behind." But, "Rattle and Hum" is what resonates for me. I can still hear their versions of "Helter Skelter" and the equally amazing yet under recognized original "All I Want Is You." The following as impartial a review as I can..

Like a preacher stealing hearts at a travelling show
Review created: 01/22/01
by: JediKermit -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Great live performances of classic U2 Songs, great "new" songs

Cons:
Bono's Egomania? It works for him and for me...

This 72-minute album was actually the first U2 album I owned, simply because it was at the used CD store. For some reason (and I blame my parents, as all good children should) I didn't know U2 until about 1996-97. Then I started hanging out with a group of friends who worshiped Bono and the Boys, and I joined their insidious ranks. "Rattle and Hum" is a soundtrack of sorts to go along with the film of the same title; this review only covers the CD. From its first track "Helter Skelter, this album is filled with awesome live performances by U2. I've seen them live once, and just got my tickets.

The Pride and the Power of U2
Review created: 12/19/03
by: jlr29 -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Powerful live performences, some good new songs

Cons:
The band's attempts to connect itself with Dylan, Hendrix, Beatles, etc.

"All I've got is a red guitar, three chords, and the truth," Bono sings. On another occasion, the U2 frontman said, "There's so much power in that E chord going through an amplifier. The sound is just...red." That spirit guides "Rattle and Hum" more than any other U2 album. It should be know that I have not seen the movie of the same name, which means my review has not been affected by how the music was used in that film. The album's efforts to reconnect with rock and roll's raw roots are most effective on the rollicking "Desire", which is now deservedly a rock-radio classic. "Rattle and Hum".
