A family film for the Instant Messenger age, RV takes a humorous look at a mostly functional suburban family's attempt to get away from it all on a rare vacation. The always hilarious Robin Williams plays Bob Munro, a beaten-down middle manager who feels alienated from the family he works so hard to keep comfortable. Upon his insistence, the Munro family rents an RV and embarks on a search for quality time in the land of Manifest Destiny. With his frustrated wife Jamie (the always stellar Cheryl Hines of TV's CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM), rapper-wannabe son Carl (Josh Hutcherson), and angsty daughter Cassie (Joanna Levesque, best known as a tween pop singer), la famiglia Munro is Westward Ho. However, white-collar Bob's lack of adeptness at handling the monstrous vehicle causes plenty of amusing chaos. Thank God for the kindness of strangers--in this case, a couple of endearing oddballs played by Jeff Daniels (who proved his comedic chops in the DUMB AND DUMBER films) and Kristin Chenoweth. As Travis and Mary Jo, two obsessive RV-ers with a penchant for barbecues, beer, and yodeling, they serve as the Middle-American heart and soul of the film, much smarter and savvier than cultural stereotypes write them off as being. Seasoned comedy director Barry Sonnenfield (MEN IN BLACK, WILD, WILD WEST) proves that he has mastered the intelligent comedy, and Williams, particularly in moments that are improvised, proves his brilliance once again. But it is the uniformly excellent supporting cast, in particular a knee-slapping turn by Will Arnett (Gob on TV's ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT), that makes RV so memorable.

This blu-ray disc is very clear. The Munroe Family is scheduled to go to Hawaii for their family vacation whe Mr. Munroe's boss informs him that the proposal is due weeks earlier and that he must attend a presentation in Colorado. Fearing the consequences of telling his wife and family, he comes up with another plan. Mr. Munroe (Played by Robin Wlliams) decides to rent a RV and shows up at their house with it. He travels with his Laptop and Blackberry to keep communications with his Boss - without his family knowing. He works on the proposal in the evening while the family sleeps. He lost good productive time when they meet a family an RV Park they stopped at and had dinner with them. During their trip to Colorado, they keep running into this family and they begin chasing the Munroe's - little did Mr. Munroe realize that his LAPTOP is no longer with him but with the other family. Good laugh out loud laughs.

RV: Robin Williams Back To His Funny Stuff!
Review created: 08/28/06

Pros:
Funny, Robin Williams.

Cons:
Some slow spots in the movie, over use of some antics.

RV is a 2006 comedy starring Robin Williams. We have been waiting for the DVD release of this movie with hopes of an enjoyable movie. It lived up to it's promise even though the film was a bit cheesy also. Lights, Camera....Action! RV is about a family who is planning to go on a summer vacation to Hawaii before the kids go back to school. Bob Munro (Robin Williams) has promised this trip to his wife, Jamie (Cheryl Hines) for some time now. The kids are excited too, for as teens they are looking forward to hanging out at the beach. Bob's boss has other plans and tells him you either...

All through the movie I held a grudge. With the safety belt that wouldn't budge.

Pros:
Some genuine chuckles.

Cons:
The movie thinks it's hilarious, even though it's far from it.

There is a scene early on in RV where Robin Williams asks his family what would be a good name for the RV they just rented to take on a business trip disguised as a family vacation. The daughter, a Vegetarian Goth, suggests "big turd". Her younger brother favors "Big Rolling Turd". It's to RV's credit that it doesn't quite sink to the level of quality of that second suggested name for the titular camper. Is RV dumb? Yes. But calling it that is beside the point. It was deliberately designed to be dumb. Is RV an awful movie? No. In terms of quality it's not a Robin Williams comedy classic like..

Robin Williams attempts a family vacation via RV

Pros:
Original idea

Cons:
More silly than funny

RV stars Robin Williams, Jeff Daniels, and Cheryl Hines in a PG-rated comedy about a family s comic mishaps while taking a cross-country vacation in a huge motor home. It was directed by Barry Sonnenfeld of Men in Black and The Addam s Family fame. Robin Williams plays a marketing executive for a company run by a hard-nosed germophobe. Williams had been planning a Hawaiian vacation for his family, but a last-minute change at work forces him to skip the trip and attend a meeting in Colorado. Rather than break the news directly to his family, Williams decides to rent an RV and convince them to..

  RVing Was Never This Painful

Pros:
The acting and moral are fine

Cons:
I was expecting a comedy

Growing up, a family vacation meant hitching up the car to a trailer and heading out. And some of my happiest memories are from those trips. It didn't matter where we went, we had a good time. With that background, I must admit I was curious about RV. Based on the previews, I probably would have passed right on by. But I had to give it a try. I wish I'd listened to my first instinct. The Munro family used to be close. But then the kids grew up. Now father Bob (Robin Williams) is committed to his job always worried that his demanding boss will fire him for a younger, better motivated model....
