this has always been my favorite rush album and it is hard to find and to find it remastered has been great. i listen to it constantly, thank you for a great product

My favorite Rush album: A feast of soundReview created: 09/04/06

I used to really dislike this album, would have rated it 2 stars about 3 months ago. Now, it's actually my favorite Rush album, and Rush is my favorite band. I don't think that the guitar is buried as much as Signals or Hold Your Fire, but there is just as much synthesizer as Hold Your Fire and more than Signals. The album is very well-balanced, with all 4 instruments keeping each other in check.
The highlights of this album are the epic Manhattan Project, the climactic Marathon (tied with The Fountain of Lamneth for my favorite Rush song), and the pounding Mystic Rhythms. The other 5 tracks are also masterpieces, but if I were to fully describe each track, I'd run out of room.
My recommendation: Don't buy this as your first Rush album... Buy it as your 5th or so, and give it time to warm up to you. It really is amazing if you let it be.

Somehow, after two disappointing albums, Rush moved closer to solving the puzzle of their sound with Power Windows. On first listen the subtleties weren t clear and the album didn t sound particularly impressive, but after a few spins on the turn table it becomes clear how much better this album was than the previous two. It is near perfect in a number of ways. At long last, a truce is struck between guitar and synthesizer and both now hold a place of honor in the court of Rush. I am a HUGE Rush fan, but I really dislike this album! There are a number of reasons why I dislike this album. For one,and this is probably my biggest gripe, I feel that Rush got too far away from their hard rock/prog metal roots on this. They sound way too much like an 80s new wave/pop band on Power Windows, with all their new fangled synthesizers and keyboards. Geddy's bass playing is different, Lifeson employs too much effects with his guitar. In place of the thick tone from the 70's is a thin and weedy sound, even on the power chords.
