One of Disney's best movies

If you think of Hayley Mills, you probably think of "Pollyanna" and it's little wonder since this is her best film and one of Disney's best too. "Pollyanna" is the story of a little girl named Pollyanna Whittier, an orphan, who comes to live in the little town of Harrisburg with her very wealthy aunt. Unfortunately for Pollyanna, nobody (including her aunt) really likes her much as first -- probably because she's always so happy.
However, she eventually becomes friends with several of the townspeople including a grumpy old lady who thinks she's always about to die and a crotchety old hermit by bringing some joy and happiness into their lives. In fact, she goes around the old town spreading smiles and happiness which spreads and helps improve their dull, joyless lives.
Meanwhile...Aunt Polly Harrington, the wealthiest person in the town named for her family, completely runs the town. Nobody dares oppose her nor contradict her. Even the minister is afraid of her and does everything she tells him to. But when a new orphanage is needed, Aunt Polly doesn't want to help much. Spurred on by the new camaraderie sparked by Pollyanna, the town rebels against her rule and the townspeople decide to take matters in their own hands, and they plan a bazaar to raise money. However, Aunt Polly forbids Pollyanna to go. But Pollyanna sneaks out anyway and helps lead the bazaar. While sneaking back into her room, Pollyanna suffers a horrible accident and her legs are paralyzed.
Pollyanna, always cheerful, becomes sad and depressed. An operation may help restore her ability to use her legs, but in her mental condition, she's not fit to operate on. In a scene reminiscent of "It's a Wonderful Life," Pollyanna sees how much she has changed the whole town and roles reverse: now, the townspeople come to cheer her up. Much improved emotionally, Pollyanna leaves Harrisburg, The Glad Town thanks to her, for her operation.
"Pollyanna" is one of Disney's finest films for the excellent story, wonderful actors, and the upbeat message. Sadly, while "Pollyanna's" message of trying to look for the best in life may seem a bit corny to us today, it's still a great message. Another positive message in the movie is Pollyanna's motto of "If you look for the bad in people you're sure to find it, so look for the good in them instead." I really enjoyed this movie and highly recommend it! Rated 5/5
