  Good Buy

It is good quality. One character's voice was quieter than the rest but it's hardly noticeable. The box was in good condition and the VHS was clean so it was a very good buy.

Unfortunately, it was in bad condition so we couldn't give it a fair review.
The movie was fuzzy and garbled. The case was falling apart.

If it had worked properly it was have been a good movie.

Pokemon the First Movie: Was Pikachu miscast as Jesus?
Review created: 08/18/00
by: Horswispr -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
teaches cooperation; teaches competition with boundaries; the movie ends up as a morality tale

Cons:
episodes get old after awhile

If you didn't enjoy this movie, you gotta go play on some swings and find the kid inside you! Yes, the animation is primitive, and yes, the messages are simple, but let's face it: Pikachu is cute as heck, and children in single digits love him and his buddies to death. I don't like to use "reinforcement" to control kids, but I CAN get ten rowdy children to calm down a bit with the simple promise that if they listen well, their day will conclude with Pokemon Tattoos, which cost about $2.00 for a pack of 150. "I'm being a good listener, right?" So Pokemon teaches violence, since all of the...

Pros:
In a small age group, this movie is still big stuff

Cons:
Adults will have a hard time watching with their kids

If You Like Pokemon You'll Love This...
Review created: 07/10/00
by: bilbopooh -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
typical Pokemon fare

Cons:
typical Pokemon fare (see a pattern??)

And if you don't like Pokemon, you'll hate it. Parents, be warned. Most of you won't get it. Don't even try unless you've watched the television show and been properly initiated by an eight-to-twelve-year-old. But if you've latched on to the Pokemon craze, don't miss this. Rather short even as animated flick go, it's even shorter considering the fact that the main story is delayed by "Pikachu's Vacation." The almost complete lack of talking may annoy you, but just think of it as an animated picture book. Pikachu and his friends have arrived at an exclusive Pokemon resort, and it's the...

Like watching a 90-minute commercial...while being set on fire.

Pros:
Most people have already caught on to this soulless tripe masquerading as entertainment.

Cons:
The popularity of Pokemon is proof that some parents don't care WHAT their kids watch.

I have a niece who is almost 12. Like most kids her age, she likes whatever TV shows, music and movies that all her schoolyard pals are into. Seeing as children are (by definition) inexperienced creatures (not to mention pretty dumb sometimes), it only stands to reason that on ocassion they will like JUNK. Junk like professional wrestling. Junk like boy bands. Junk like Pokemon. Bottom Line: This whole Pokemon thing is a pathetic and transparent marketing sham, masquerading (poorly) as entertainment. If you choose to look carefully (and I wouldn't recommend it), you may almost see the germ of.

  The Video Release Gimmick
Review created: 03/21/00
by: jubrismom -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Mewtwo card, movie is watchable

Cons:
only one special card per movie

Today I spent 20 minutes in a K-mart check out line waiting to pay $40 total for two copies of the newly released on video movie Pokemon: The First Movie. Why even buy it and why two copies you ask? Well, let me explain the great marketing tactics involved. I have two sons, ages 11 and 9, the perfect Pokemon target age group. Both saw the movie in the theatre. Not once, not twice, not even just three times. More like five times between all of the parties with their friends. They of course loved the show. The show overall isn't too bad. It has action, suspense, and moral lessons presented on a.
